I was out on the Bank One web site and couldn't find anything about the Disney VISA. Anything new on this lately? I was thinking it would be out 1Q03?

We got info. with our Disney Stock annual report & it is the same as wdwdreamin said - they will begin issuing them on March 4th.

Here are the rewards they said they would be offering:

* No annual fee
* Competitive APR
* Special promotional APR on Disney Vacation packages
* Cardmember since "Day 1" embossed on your card
* Commemorative Disney pin the first time you use your card

I assume these will be the same benefits as they will offer for non-stock holders, but I'm not 100% sure.

It is the most pathetic insult to guests who were expecting it: $1 for every $100 you spend, up to $750 for $75,000 a year! And then a lot of ways to get you to book packages and trips. But rewards are limited to 1%

Some fiasco...

0% Intro Fixed APR for 6 Months*
After that, you'll enjoy a variable rate as low as 11.15%.

No Annual Fee
Even with all of these great benefits, you won't have to pay an annual fee.

Actually 1% of purchases is not so uncommon for these types of cards....

True, but 1% earned only on Disney related merchandise and services? meaning you have to spend $75,000 to earn the maximum they'll give you a year, $750???

I'd rather keep my AMEX Skymiles and LLBean Visa rewards. At least $75,000 will buy me three reward round trip tickets and beaucoup d' items with lifetime warranties!

LLBean gives you 3% for LLBean purchases, and .5% for other purchases. As far as I can tell, the Disney Card is 1% for ALL purchases, right. I don't buy a lot of Disney related merchandise, believe it or not, so an extra % or two for purchases made there wouldn't do me much good. Although it looks like Disney will occassionally offer extra points for their merchandise.

We charge everything (groceries, gas, dining out, etc.) to our LLBean Visa and pay it off every month. Somehow we manage to rack up around $1,000 in charges every month. So if we switched to the Disney Visa, that would be $10 or so a month. So $120 in Disney Reward Dollars a year is probably nothing to "sneeze" at for us. :) And since we pay it off every month, the interest rate after the intro period doesn't matter either.

We never fly anywhere, so we don't bother to earn air miles anywhere.

Well, that's just my observations. I guess like anything, the Disney Visa isn't for everyone. ;)

I'm curious...has anyone applied...and been accepted??

I applied this morning. It just said that I would be notified by postal mail within 30 days.

I agree that the 1% on all purchases is standard for this type of card, but it is pretty disappointing they don't give you a higher percentage back for Disney purchases all the time. However, I still went ahead and applied for it. I currently use the Toys 'R Us rewards card which has been good for us since we have a 2 year old and another on the way, but I'd rather have Disney Dollars

I noticed while reading the fine print that they calculate interest using the two-cycle method, which means this is definitely a card you do NOT want to carry a balance on (of course, that's true of virtually all rewards cards).

Just to clarify: The Disney Visa offers Disney Rewards Dollars, not Disney Dollars. They are not necessarily the same thing!!!!!

There is a link on the DVC website for members and a code (in the vacation magic newsletter) to use when you apply. The code will have the Disney Vacation Member logo on the card.

I applied last night and the application said card should be received in 3-4 weeks.

4-5 business days after applying on the phone you can call 888-338-2586 and see the progress of your application.

And anyone who is thinking of transferring a balance to this to get Reward Dollars, the fine print says you do not earn rewards dollars on Balance Transfers and Cash advances and some other things

I don't know of any rewards cards that reward for balance transfers. In general, rewards cards carry a higher interest rate than most cards anyway. You would be better off finding the best possible rate that you can, transfer your higher-rate balances to that card and consider the interest saved as your "reward".

A better card these days in the American Express Cash Rewards card (solid Green).

The card is FREE.

The rewards are CASH

They pay you up to 1.5% of all purchases, except for FOOD, GAS, DRUG STORES and HOME places (Like Home Depot, etc). Those 4 types of places give you up to 3% back. If for some obscure reason you carry a balance, I think think the kickback is up to 5%!

So.... let's see, a card that gives you 1% back on only Disney purchases and rewards you with "credits" towards other Disney merchandise, or a card that pays you up to 3% back on ALL your purchases in cash that you can do with whatever you want! Don't think this is really a tough decision!

Thoughts?

I like my AMEX Delta Skymiles, get nice rewards and this year three of us are flying on reward tickets.. A savings of over $700 right there..

My LLBean Visa gives me two reward dollars for each spent at LLBean and one for each spent elsewhere.

I have taken to using my AMEX more often, as the points are always double with the purchase of gas, groceries, payment of your cell phone bill, etc. Then thy give you thousands of points here and there: Get AT&T service, that is about $5,000 pts. Each dollar on your bill subsequently gets a point. Get Earthlink, that's 5,000 more. Use the kiosks at the airport to check in, that is 1,000 more, buy Delta tickets that gives you double points and even triple during special promotions. Go to their Skydine restaurants to dine out or take out and you get 10 pts per dollar spent... There are so many ways to earn thousands of points that a quarter of what got us our tickets this year was earned through offers alone, not purchases!

Heck I am sticking to that card like a lifesaver.

Back to the Dis Visa... Yes, a few points here and there on Disney credits is not bad but the point is you can get more from other rewrds cards. Disney really let me down one more time, and I wonder why it thinks it can afford to not pamper guests, even with nice rewards in a credit card...

But it's not ONLY Disney purchases. It's ALL purchases, right?

Yes, the other AMEX card sounds like it might be "better." But it's not a "Disney" card. ;)

Guess I'll have to look into the AMEX one, too.

And TreeOfLife: How do you have an LLBean card that pays you 2 reward dollars for LLBean and one elsewhere? Mine is 3% of LLBean purchases, i think, and .5% of others.

Just looking for the best deal....
