Asking for a friend since I already have it but are there any current promotions such as free credits for signing up? Also is there any credit for me of she is referred by me?

I think there was a refer-a-friend offer years ago, but truthfully, it wasn't as good for the "friend" as it was to apply using a link online. I'm not even sure if the refer-a-friend program still exists.

The Disney website has a $200 statement credit when you apply for, are approved and make a purchase using the card. It's the premier Disney Visa and there is a $49 annual fee for the card. Scroll to the middle of the page. It's to the left of the Special Offers link to room and package discounts.

If annual fees are not her thing, she can click the $200 offer on the Disney website and then click the No Annual Fee link near the bottom left of the page. It will take you to a page where you can apply for the regular (no fee) Disney Visa which has a $100 statement credit after spending $500 in the first 3 months after opening the account.

I would recommend against getting the Disney Visa - the "perks" and benefits from the card are not as good as many other travel credit cards out there on the market today.

Instead of the Disney Visa I would recommend these instead:
  • Chase Sapphire Preferred - 40,000 Chase Points
  • Chase Southwest Visa - 50,000 Southwest Miles
  • Barclaycard Arrival - $440 in free travel

I agree that the Disney Visa is light on benefits but the regular card has no annual fee while the 3 cards listed above all carry hefty annual fees (Sapphire Preferred = $99, SWA Premier = $99, Barclay Arrival = $89). Of course, you can find offers where they waive the annual fee the first year and then cancel before the annual fee hits for the second year. But not everyone wants to churn credit cards.

If the OP's friend wants the Disney Visa, then the offers mentioned above are probably the best options for her.

Rather than getting the Disney Visa I'd look at the Chase Freedom card. It has rotating categories where you earn 5%. It rotates every month. This month is gas, movies theaters, and starbucks. Next is Restaurants (I think?).

You'll earn many more points using other cards.

I have a couple cards and pick which card to use based on what gives the best rewards.

Barclay Rewards Mastercard has a card that gives 2% back on gas, groceries and utilities, so I sub that in when those categories are not on the 5%.

All of these are no annual fees. We don't fly much, so I wanted a cash back card.

There is a refer-a-friend program but you have to receive the info from Chase to give to your friend. Not everyone gets it every year. We got some this year and it is only my second time to receive them in the 6 years I have had the card.

Thanks for the info, I will pass it along. I think the Disney is the best for them. Just trying to help them since this will most likely be their one and only trip!

aamob, the sign up bonus for the Chase Disney is not as good as the bonus for Chase Sapphire, but if your friend is married both she and her husband can sign up which will give them a bonus of $400. However, if this will be their only trip to Disney they need to know that the rewards on this card can only be used at Disney or a Disney store. We have this card and we like to do the Chase meet and greet at Epcot. I received 6 referrals to give to away and for everyone that gets a card I receive 50 dream reward dollars. The number to apply for the card is 1-800-577-0870. You might call the number and see if you could be a part of this promotion. Good luck.
