Disney Visa

I opened up a Disney Visa about a year ago. I've already racked up about $500 Disney Dream Dollars and should have well over $1500 by the time we go on our planned WDW vacation in 5/2010. I'm assuming that there are probably a ton of people on this board that have the Disney Visa as well. So here are a few questions hopefully someone can answer:

1. Is there an expiration date for using the Dream Dollars?
2. Do these Dream Dollars work like cash towards a vacation package? So, for example, a package cost $5000, I can use $1000 DDD and have a balance of $4000.
3. How do you redeem these Dream Dollars?
4. Does having the Disney Visa entitle us to any further resort/vacation package discounts?
5. Any other hidden perks that anyone has come across?

Thanks,

Yes, your dollars will expire. Check the Visa website under rewards and it will show you when your first ones will expire. Once you transfer them over to the reward card it then becomes an even shorter time that you will need to use them. I used ours to pay off our room charges and it worked great. This will be my second trip using ours. The first trip I had around $700.00 and I will have over that for our trip next year.

Yes, it should state the expiration date on your statement. Also, once transfered to a DD card, it too expires, so do not transfer the dollars until about a month or so before you want to use them.

2. Do these Dream Dollars work like cash towards a vacation package? So, for example, a package cost $5000, I can use $1000 DDD and have a balance of $4000.

Yes, I used mine to make payment toward our last vacation. I did make my reservation directly with WDW and had no problem. Just give the number from the rewards card and they will apply them. Not sure if this works with a TA.

3. How do you redeem these Dream Dollars?

Once on a card, all the places in WDW that we tried to use them worked. It seemed as long as a Credit card was a way to pay - no problem. Some of the carts only took cash and it couldn't be used.

4. Does having the Disney Visa entitle us to any further resort/vacation package discounts?

Yes, sometimes there are discounts on rooms and the current Free Dining offer was available to Disney Visa holders 3 days (I think) before the general public.
5. Any other hidden perks that anyone has come across?

I sometimes receive discount emails for Broadway Plays and currently there is an offer to receive 5 X the Disney Dollars for purchases of Grocery, Gas, Dining and Airline during Apr May and June. Zero percent interest for 6 months on WDW packages. They also have the refer a friend where you get $25 Disney Dollars and the friend a $25 Disney Gift Card upon approvel

Thanks,

Hope this helps!!

OK, I just checked my last statement and it said that "21 Dream Dollars to expire in April 2012". Does this mean that each set of earned Dream Dollars expires at different times?

Don't forget about the character meet and greet at Epcot that is just for Disney Visa cardholders. Every afternoon between 1:30 and 4:30.

Watch carefully when you transfer your points over to dollars...Thats when the expiration changes...Mine nearly expired on me.

Well now I'm confused. I went back and looked at some online statements from last year and each statement gives me a new balance and then says "20 Reward Dollars will expire April 2012". Not sure what this means.

Why don't you call the bank. Only they can answer that question.

Transferring the dollars to the Visa can be done instantly. You have to put $20 on it when you order the card. I would wait until a few months before your trip to order the card. Then I just wait until about 5 minutes before I actually plan to spend the money and transfer the exact amount I need on to the card.

So for instance, I usually use the Reward dollars to pay off my Room charges--all the food and souvies we buy while in WDW. I have them all charged to my room. Then I get my statement from the front desk on the last day. I go back to my room (or find somewhere private) and call Disney Visa on my cell phone and have them transfer the exact amount Reward Dollars I will need onto the card minus the change. This way I end up with a 0 balance on the Reward Card and don't have to worry about anything remaining expiring.

keep in mind- the limit on earnings is 750 points a year. ;)

Yes, they do have the limits but the special offer of 5x for certain purchases is in addition to this according to my offer. That offer has its own limit of 100.

In the statement that I just received, there was a notice that said the annual limit has been lifted effective immediately.

I have had the Disney VISA card since 2005 and I've redeemed Disney Dollars on both of my trips to WDW in 2006 & 2007. I've been using the Disney VISA card for ALL of my grocery and gas purchases. But, I have never received an email offer for 5X Disney Dollars nor have I ever received 5X Disnay Dollars in my account. How do I get the 5X offer?

We got this offer. we had not used the Disney Visa in a few years and
wonder if that is why we got it or if it is random. Still learning about
the reward system so this has helped me some. Good luck to you!

ooh, actually (sort of) looking fw to my next statement, we've been at the 750 points for a couple of months now.

Actually I called yesterday to just get my card so I have it and the CM told me I had to transfer at least $10. I don't know if different people have different levels or not. I know there were many different thresholds for the current 5 x offer. I received a $250 threshold in the mail prior to Apr 1. I signed up over a month ago. Yesterday I received a reminder email that I could sign up with a threshold of $500!! Same account number, same everything except the 500. I called Disney Visa and they told me it was the 250. I hope so. This offer is kind of a pain keeping track of.
