Disney visa vs. new DVC membership

Is there any benefit to getting the Disney Visa vs. becoming a new DVC member?

I had read about getting a $500 benefit, but can't find that benefit on the Disney Rewards Visa site. Was this perhaps a benefit that's no longer being offered?

We're thinking about becoming a DVC member (SSR) and thought that if there was an advantage to getting the Disney Rewards card ($500 bonus that is) we'd do that as well.

The $500 Rewards offer expired the end of November. And was only available to folks who'd had the card since September 1st - not new card holders.

If you do get a Disney Visa you can pay for your DVC membership with it, so you'll earn Rewards dollars on the purchase. Also, the first $2,500 will be interest free for 6 months!

When we purchased an add on through Disney last month , we got a Disney Visa card. We were able to put the entire purchase on our Visa card with no interest for 6 months as they were running a promotion that all purchases were interest free for the 6 months on a new account.I'm not sure if that promotion is still running or not.The interest rate was pretty high after the first 6 months so you would need to be able to pay it off at the end of the 6 months. We also got reward points for the entire purchase, so we essentially got one percent back.

I use my Reward Dollars to pay a portion of my dues. This year dues are $799 and I have $313 reward dollars to pay toward it.

The rewards card come in handy when you travel to WDW. Over the year or so you build dollars on the rewards card itself, which is a separate card issued tied to the rewards account. We use the card for souveniers and other stuff.

I just signed up for the Disney Visa (we're getting ready to do an add-on) and my offer is 0% interest through Dec '08 on all purchases and balance transfers.

I will be putting our add-on there and then paying it off by Dec!

AND I'll be earning Disney Rewards

I've always used my rewards dollars while on vacation, this year we'll be using them towards dues and that's a very good thing!

We have had our Disney Visa for several years and are just in the process of buying our first DVC. We have used the points for souvenirs and reading this thread just gave me more great DVC info !!! PAYING THE DUES -WOW!!! Any other Disney Visa uses I don't know about - because I obviously don't know much!
