I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this question...if not, I apologize.

How long does it typically take for your rewards points to show once you've made a purchase on the Disney Visa? I haven't ordered a rewards card in a long time (since our May 2013 trip) so I can't remember. I charged 5k for our June trip to my Disney Visa and then paid it right off, but my rewards points aren't showing yet. I know I don't have to order my rewards card to take with me until early May or so, but it's kind of making me nervous that they aren't there yet.

I also charged our flight to the Disney card last night. Obviously if my vacation package charge isn't showing up in my rewards, this isn't either, but how long until everything is there?

Thank you!

I'm pretty sure they don't update until your billing cycle ends and you get your statement.

Side note, I've been using my barclay arrival+ card for points instead (they had a 40,000 point/$400 signup offer) and the points do show up as soon as your purchases post. It was disconcerting after using Chase for so long.

I've always waited until the billing cycle ends before paying off the card. The points are posted after the cycle ends and your statement for that month is available.

For those who pay off the card before the end of the cycle, are your points still posted when the cycle ends like normal? Paying it off before the cycle ends doesn't affect the points being posted does it?

Nope. The trick with working these rewards points cards is you don't ever want to carry a balance or pay interest, otherwise you're negating the point of using a rewards card. I make a payment several times a month.

But as long as you pay off the full amount when you receive the statement, you're not going to be paying any interest. What is the possible advantage of paying off early or several times a month????

If you do pay it early (before the statement arrives and before the closing date), are the points still added to the account after the closing date???

Some people pay it before the statement arrives because they are afraid of being late on a payment. I've never done this myself , however, thus the question above.

I always pay off my card as soon as possible and have never had a problem with points showing up.

Reward points are added to your reward balance after each billing cycle regardless of payment (early, on time, or late). There is no point in paying the balance off early As long as you pay off the balance before the due date, you are earning the rewards without any loss.

Just a note regarding extra payments on the Disney Visa... if you are carrying a 0% interest promotional balance (for a vacation), any extra payments made outside the usual billing cycle will be applied directly to the 0% balance and not your regular balance. Say you have charges totaling $1000 throughout the month (regular balance) and make a charge of $1000 for a vacation (promotional balance). You plan to hold that promotional balance for a couple of months until you get your tax refund, but make 4 payments of $250 intending to cover the regular balance. Only one would be applied to your regular balance and the others ends up applied to the promo balance. So you could end up incurring interest on the regular balance which is now $750 and your promotional balance is reduced to just $250; but if you had made one payment of $1000 (or better yet $1025 to pay a minimum towards the promo balance) -- the full $1000 would be applied to the regular charges and only $25 to the promotional balance. Same holds true for any returns/refunds that occur -- those funds will be applied directly to the promotional balance instead of offsetting the item purchased and returned. So be careful making multiple payments to a credit card if you have any promotional balance.

And to OP's original question -- as others have stated, the Disney Visa Rewards are posted to your account on the statement date, not relative to when you make payment.

Does anyone here try to max out the value of rewards each month by paying everything (fuel, mortgage, groceries, dining) and paying the balance off each month? They promote this card by saying people pay for behind the scenes tours (i.e. Wild Africa Trek), which costs between $189 and $229 per person). Assuming a 4 person family - the amount of rewards points needed to cover this expense entirely would mean people are charging and paying off anywhere from $3150 to $8300 per month for 12 months on the Disney Visa.

Seems like a lot, but maybe someone has done this?

I put everything possible on the card and pay it off each month. Some months we have a $3000 bill, and some months it is $7000+.

ETA: We are not given the option to pay our mortgage with a credit card. Sure wish we could! Lol!

Wow, that's very good to know. I once made two payments in a month, only because I realized I could afford to pay off more. And I did have a promotional balance. I didn't realize the consequences.

I put everything on the DIS Visa that I would only get 1% on from other cards, Mostly Walmart (very rare) and BJ's. I also pay my Comcast and insurance on the card as there are no service fees. Best of all when I bought my new car I put $4000 in down payment on the DIS Visa instead of writing a check; as soon as the charges hit my account I paid it off.

my family can only afford to go every 3-4 years so it does add up.

Good to know - so it can be done. I don't think we can pay our mortgage with it either, but I'm convincing my wife to start paying for groceries, gas, etc. with it to see how we do.

We hope to put our new car deposit on our card as well. Our credit limit is $13,500, so hopefully we can put at least $10,000 down.

my car dealership had a limit of $2000/day on a credit card so I had to do it 2 times but $40 in free Disney!
Hope you can make it work.
