Disney Visa Rewards Question

We have had a Disney Visa for a long time now - and have over $800 on a Disney Rewards card. We are going to Disney World in January (first time in 15 years) and will be bringing the card with us. But, I want to make sure we'll use it all. What are your suggestions? We booked our rooms/tickets/free dining etc. with a travel agent - but can I use the Rewards card for whatever we end up charging to our room? Can I buy the kids a 1st Visit Disney Gift Card for Christmas with the Rewards card? And, we'll obviously use it whenever we buy souveniers. Any tips you have on ideas as to what to use it for - and any surprises I may come across are appreciated. I just can't figure out if we are are going to have a hard time spending the entire $800 or not. Thanks much!

I don't think you'll have a hard time spending money at Disney. :rotfl2: One thing I do is print off several photos (5 x 7) from photopass when we get home, as well as, our vacation pictures (using the photopass website) and that usually runs me about $100. Not sure if you can use disney rewards for that. I know you can use the rewards to buy gift cards from disney online.

You can use your rewards to pay the balance due on your trip if it hasnt already been paid off. Your travel agent should be able to do that for you. You can use the rewards card to order gift cards at the disney store online but you might not be able to do it at there brick and mortar stores. Some allow it some dont. You can use it to pay your room charges as long as you remember to do it before it gets charged to your credit card that you left on file. You can use it to pay the tip on your table service meals that you have with the dining plan. You can use it in the food courts or table service restaurants to buy more food if the dining plan is not enough food to satisfy everyone. You can use it to purchase your souvenirs. You can upgrade your tickets to hoppers. Or add the waterpark fun and more. Or you can treat the family to cirque de soleil one night. Basically if disney owns it you can use the card to pay for it.

Thanks for the ideas! I know we probably could/would have spent the money somewhere while we are there - I like the idea of either paying off our travel agent and/or spending the money for the photopass.

When we have such a large amount accumulated, we either use it to pay off our room or our tickets so we'll be sure to use it all.

We are using our Disney rewards card to pay for some of our dining plan as we rented a DVC studio from someone so no free dining for us. But I read that you can use the Disney rewards to pay for tips and any other out of pocket expenses that the dining plan doesn't cover. Also, if you are getting free dining, you could use your rewards to upgrade to the deluxe dining plan if you wanted to. Disney has some great souvenirs so it is very easy to spend money there. You could always use half of your rewards to pay off the balance for your trip and save the rest as spending money.

If you have anything left over at the end of your trip, you can use the rewards card to buy a Disney gift card online. That way you can save it for a future trip and it won't expire.

If you are spending $100 on actual photos, then you would be better off to just buy the CD, which is $100 for the prepay.

That's what I would do!

I completely agree! Pay almost $100, get all the digital images with your edits, with rights to continue to print them for your personal purposes, and get the prints made for 20 cents at your fave digital printing place...

I always use mine to pay for my park tickets. For me it goes quickly and I imagine for a family it would get used up without a problem.

One thing to remember is that once the Disney dollars are transferred to a card they have an expiration date, usually the Dec of the year that the card was issued. I always just transfer the minimum amt to the card and transfer by phone as needed.

How exactly do you transfer by phone? and can you transfer from to different accounts onto the same rewards card?

All you have to do is call Disney Visa main number 800 300 8575. I don't know if there is an automated way to do it but I just talk to a customer service person and it's done as you speak! Never a problem. I just don't like to transfer more than I need. In Feb when we went I had just under 10 left on the rewards card I got and it expires in Dec. 2010. We are going again the week after Thanksgiving so I wasn't concerned I didn't finish it in Feb, and I know you can use it other places, but I wouldn't want a large dollar amt just hanging out on a card that had an expiration date sooner than the actual Disney dollars would have if not on a card. Just what we do.

I doubt you can transfer from 2 different visas to one rewards card. Never had the issue but can't think it's a doable thing.

That's why people are recommending buying a disney giftcard with the rewards card, if they don't spend all of the money. Disney giftcards don't expire.

So if I would transfer some to a card right now? Would it expire in Dec? I thought it had a year to be used from the time you transfered it.

I don't know when they change the expiration date. I got one in May one time and yes, it was Dec of that year. Mine have always had a Dec expiration date. I don't know if that goes for everyone just my experience.

The rewards card will expire on december thirty first of the year following the year that you ordered it. So if you order one today it will expire at the end of december 2011. Not december of this year,

Maybe sometimes but the 2 times I had Disney Dollars transferred Apr 2009-exp Dec 2009 and Jan 2010 card expires on 12/2010. So maybe sometimes if requested later in the year but not the 2 times I have transferred rewards. I have the card I ordered in Jan of this year and it expires dec of this year.

Funny. I ordered one around january as well and it does not expire until december of 2011. Read the terms of service. They are not supposed to expire less than a year after being ordered.
