Not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but Disney Rewards dollars for most of us will expire as of 12/04. If your rewards card has 12/2004 on it, all the reward dollars you've transferred are only good until December 31. You have to use them or you'll lose them!

The reward dollars are good for 5 years ONLY if you don't transfer them to the card, once they're on the card, they expire with the card.

This is the full text from the 'help' part of the website:
----------------------------------
Reward Dollars Expiration
Your Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM are good for a full five years (60 billing cycles) from the time they're earned, while included in your Program Rewards Balance. There are no block-out dates. Please refer to the Guide to the Disney RewardsSM Program for complete program details, including Terms and Conditions.

Once reward dollars are transferred to your Disney RewardsSM Card, the reward dollars are available for redemption until the expiration date on the rewards card. Rewards cards, and the reward dollars remaining on them, expire December 31st of the year after the year when the card was first ordered. For example:

A card ordered October 1, 2003, will expire on December 2004.
A card ordered January 1, 2004, will expire on December 2005.
When the card expires, any remaining reward dollars on the card will be forfeited. You will then need to request a new card. Replacement cards are not automatically sent to you.

Once reward dollars have been transferred to a rewards card, you cannot transfer them back into your Program Rewards Balance. Therefore, we recommend that you transfer only the number of reward dollars you plan to redeem prior to the expiration date of the rewards card.

Looks like I'll be heading to the Disney Store tonight to buy Disney dollars or a park hopper.

Thanks for the reminder - fortunately for me, I used all my rewards up a few weeks ago on a fabulous trip by eating wonderful meals and buying lots of adorable Xmas gifts !!! :smooth:

I've learned to wait until the day before check out to move my points over for just this reason - in August I moved over more than I ended up needing because we cancelled a PS or two and ate in the room - if I hadn't had another trip planned at the end of the year, I would not have been able to use them at WDW (which is the whole and only reason I even use this card)!

My card had an expiration of 12/04....
I lost it while at DW two weeks ago...
Called Visa and they put a freeze on the card and told me I could go to Downtown Disney to get a replacement (If I was home they would have mailed it.)

The new card has an expiration of 12/05. I verified this with Visa and they said the new date would stand for the points.

(So if you had points left and "lost" your card........)

I just found this out the hard way. My rewards card just expired with $46.27 on it. Arrggggggh!!! :headache:

I called the number on the card, but they said they couldn't do anything other than send it to a manager. I should get a response within 10 days. I encourage anyone in a similar situation to call the number on your expired card and let them know you are upset/discouraged about the situation. Have the problem sent on to management for a review.

This is fairly misleading to tell us several times in the literature and on the web site that the points won't expire for five years, then have them expire (in my situation) in just two months.

Can someone please give me some examples of things you can use the reward dollars for? I'm been thinking about getting the Disney Visa, but don't want to get it if the rewards take so long to get, it's not worth the trouble. I've tried searching everywhere to find some examples, but no luck. I'm looking for info like -- 1 adult character breakfast = ## reward points or something to that effect. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

The rewards are like dollars. If you want a character meal, you use however may dollars worth of rewards. You transfer rewards from your account to a card, and use the card like a credit card. You can use them for anything at the parks, tickets, hotel, food, etc.

Once transferred, the rewards on the card will expire. If you keep them in your account, they don't. (Actually, I think the bonus rewards do, but you have about 5 years)

Letsbgoofy-

Thanks for the explanation -- very clear. I don't know why all the Disney Visa sites can't be that clear! :)

Thanks!
Kate
