Hello everyone. I plan to book a cruise as soon as the late 2019 itinerary is released. Can you think of any advantages or disadvantages to using our Disney rewards money we have accrued through our Chase Disney Visa for our down payment? It sounds like a lot of people use it on the ship, but I haven't read much as far as using it to pay for the cruise.
Thank you,
Scott
There's no advantages or disadvantages. It's basically a gift card. You can either apply it before your cruise by calling
DCL's Amenities line, or use it onboard. And certainly, you can use it for a down payment as well. If you don't have enough on the card for the down payment, you can supplement with another form of payment.
Since the reward card no longer have an expiration date, it would be wise to keep it safe, and protect it like you would cash, because if you lose it, anyone can use it. Just in case you're not familiar with it, make sure you order the card plenty ahead of your cruise. I would allocate around 2 months, just to err on the side of caution. You can always transfer your rewards to the card at any time. Transferring the rewards, once you have the card, is instant. Of course, don't get rid of it when you're done as any refunds would go back onto the rewards card, and it's reloadable.
Keep in mind that the rewards card is totally separate from the Visa card itself. The Visa card is what earns you the benefits. The rewards card is pretty much just a gift card, but reloadable, and reusable, so protect it and keep it safe.
