Hi Everyone,

I just got my Disney Visa Card 2 months ago so I haven't ever order a the rewards card to know what they look like/work.

There is someone on my local craigslist looking to sell their reward card worth $467 as they are not going to Disney this year for $367. So that is like getting $100 free. The person hasn't responded back to my questions as far as expiration date goes etc.

My question to you is does the rewards card have a name printed on it? Is it transferable?? Can you purchase Disney Gift Cards with it?

Thanks
Ashley

Yes, it is transferable. Yes, it can be used to buy Disney gift cards.

BUT...and this is a big one...

The seller could sell you the card and then report it lost or stolen and have the money transferred off the card you bought onto a new card and have it mailed to him/her. To protect yourself you would need to purchase a gift card with the rewards card immediately (like in the presence of the seller!) so the seller can't report it lost before you get the money off of it. I'm also not sure the money would come off the rewards card immediately when you placed a gift card order online...there might be a delay for processing. I'd advise against doing this deal to be safe.

Here's what the seller could take advantage of to scam you:

Call Chase immediately at 1-800-436-7999 to report the loss of the card. If you are at a Disney Park, you can pick up a new card at Guest Relations and have any remaining rewards transferred to the new card. Visit the How to Redeem page in the Rewards section for a list of in-Park locations. If you are at home, Chase can transfer any remaining rewards onto a new card and mail it to you.

Important Note: Please remember that anyone in possession of a Disney Rewards Redemption Card can use it. Any Disney Dream Reward Dollars redeemed before you report the card lost or stolen cannot be recovered.

I would NOT purchase it. You don't know if the rewards are really on it. Anyone can use their card up. If the person isn't going to "use" them by their expiration date, they can always purchase a gift card with it. Gift cards don't have an expiration date. I would never purchase anyone's rewards card.

To answer your question, it doesn't have anyone's name on it, just numbers and an expiration date. The numbers link it to that owner of the credit card where the reward points were earned.

Besides that, even if they couldn't use it at Disney parks, couldn't they use it for an online purchase? Why would you give up the extra $100? That makes me think it's a scam too.

Thanks everyone...

I was just trying to see if there was a way to protect myself and get a bonus "$100". I figured I would call to check the reward balance when I picked it up before handing them the money and then buy gift cards as soon as I get home but I guess there is that chance they could report it stolen in the short drive home.

Thanks for confirming my gut feeling and filling me in on how exactly the card works. And I don't know why they just didn't purchase gift cards themselves? Maybe they don't know that option.

Do you have a Disney Store? Could you meet the seller there, buy a gift card to verify the balance and remove the chance of him/her reporting it stolen, and then pay for the item?
