Disney Visa Questions

I finally broke down and got a Disney Visa card. Accumulating points seems pretty straightforward. And I assume I can redeem points by getting what, I assume, is a card akin to a Disney gift card. Is that correct?

Also, are there any other benefits? I see there is a cardholder meet and greet areas at Epcot and HS. I think I know where those are in those parks. And I see resort discounts periodically for card holder. Are there any other benefit I should be aware of? Thanks!
We use our Disney VISA to buy Disney Gift Cards at BJ's and save $15 off each $500 card we buy. Then we use those cards to book our room and/or ticket package so you're getting savings right there. When you accumulate enough money they will send you a "rewards card" which is used just like a gift card.

For the record - as far as rewards go the Disney Visa's are objectively very bad cards. You are getting 1% with some very limited 2%. There are many many cards at there for no fee which give you at least 2% back on everything. It's fine to hold the card for the limited perks (and for those times when they'll limited time 5% earning in certain categories) - but it's a really bad card to put most spending on if you're trying to get as much back in rewards as possible.

Sure - you can say "but it forces me to save for Disney" which is true but for the most part - by the time you've earned $100 Disney dollars you'd have earned $200 cash back on a different card which you could put away in an account. . .

In general - if you're interested in rewards cards - 2% back is the absolute minimum you aim for.
Thanks. With my regard to my very old question, I wasn't really asking how it compares to other cards. I was really more interested in benefits it provides in terms of access or special discounts (which I long since received the answers to or learned on my own)

Just FYI - you would be better off buying Disney gift cards at Sams club and saving 5% (plus your 1% Disney visa). $15 off $500 at BJs is only 3%. Sam’s has $200 for $190 and sometimes throughout the year they have sales which end up at 10% discount (although those are limited to how many you can buy).

LOL - I didn't even realize when I responded that someone had resurrected a VERY old thread!

lol, no worries. Useful and/or up to date info is always helpful! But yeah, I know it was sometime last summer that I started the thread. I've since figured out how to use the card for my purposes🕵️‍♂️

BJ's also has sales on gift cards for several weeks during the year. I think it starts on Black Friday and continues through January. There may be another block of time they do that as well...I just can't remember. I purchased numerous $100 Disney gift cards for~$92 this past Dec/Jan, plus I used my Chase Freedom card to purchase some of them since the 5% bonus reward category for the 4th quarter of the year included warehouse clubs. I've never bought more than $500-600 worth of cards at a time, so I don't know if there's a limit of how many you can purchase in one transaction.

Not the original BJs poster, but as someone who does get the discount on BJs GCs, i can say the thing is is that where i live up in the Northeast we dont have a Sams Club, so although they may be better off or whatever, it nay not be an option. There is one toward the bottom of CT, but if you are high up in MA or toward Worcester etc., BJs is very accessible.

Opposite here, we don’t have BJs at all. But also, for sams these gift cards can be purchased online as they are electronic gift cards! A lot of times you can find a deal for a sams membership that makes it free or pretty low too!

ok - probably not worth buying a membership for an occasional online purchase of 2 extra percent, but maybe that will work for someone. Glad you have that store - I wish we had one to check out. BJs is a pretty good store. and as someone above stated, Black Friday usually has the GCs at an even greater discount. Last trip down I bought a 500 GC for 25 off. Many people up here do well with something called a Target Red Card but Im not sure what that percent is. I know it is better than the BJs or at least the same.

Yes target red card is 5% off. I use that one if I’m in a pinch and need last minute. Sam’s does run deals throughout the year when they do a $200 card for $180 (10% off). They do usually limit them to 2 cards I think, but last time there was a glitch and I was able to grab about 8 cards at 10% off!! So if someone can get a free membership with a promo then it might be worth it to grab a few of those. Otherwise, yes I agree not worth it if comparable to Target ref card which doesn’t require a paid membership.

Hey you get to do a few extra photo shoots, and it can make you smile seeing it in your wallet... it's fun to have.

But yeah there are much better rewards programs out there.

If you have Price Chopper near you, they do the 5x points on gift cards and I use my credit card that gives 3% back at grocery stores, gets me 8% off.

Same for me. Our closest Sam's club is about 22 miles away (a 35 minute drive using a toll road; 45 minute drive without using the toll road). It's not worth it (to me) to pay another membership fee to just get the discount on the online Disney GCs. The BJs I go to is 7 miles away in an area I pass through at least once a week. I'm good with just getting that discount and stocking up on extra cards when they're on sale. We also do the Target Red Card discount.

Yeah - I have the card in a drawer which only comes out when we go to Disney or if they have those 5% back offers which they have from time to time in certain categories for a few months. As long as people have the ability to get multiple cards - no problem with the no-fee card to hold.

Re: BJ's vs Sam's for discounted Gift Cards.

The discounts vary depending on the face value of the cards. For example, a $500 face value card at BJ's is currently $479.99 which is 4% off. But a $150 pack (which is 3x$50 cards) is $144.99 which is about 3.3% off. and $25 cards are $24.49 which is about $2%. And the in-store and on-line prices can also differ.

Last time I shopped at Sam's it was similar. $500 was $484.98 which was 3%. $50 was $47.98 which is 4%.

Both stores do run sales throughout the year.

Target was the only 5% off any card the last I looked.

You can get 0% financing for 6 Months on a Walt Disney World vacation (Booked through the Walt Disney Travel Company, or authorized Disney Vacation Planner who books through WDTC).

There are occasional Disney Visa holder specials. Often times they mirror the regular specials but are available and open for booking before the regular specials are opened to the public. So if you have a Disney Visa you can book before the "mad dash", and before the special is picked out.

Then there are the merchandise or food discounts. 10% off merchandise (previously a $50 minimum purchase, but now it looks like that was removed), and 10% off regular priced food and non-alcoholic beverages at select table service locations.

Save Up to 30% on Rooms at Walt Disney World!

Save up to 30% on rooms at select Disney Resorts Collection hotels when you stay 5 consecutive nights or longer in late summer and early fall. Plus, enjoy other savings for shorter stays. This offer is valid for stays most nights from August 1 to October 11, 2025.
