Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the right spot to post this, so please move if not. I am not new by any means to Disney Parks but I am new to the Visa. I was wondering if it is worth it. I see there is one with a annual fee and one without. My main issue is I would like the perk of getting notified of Free dining and discounts early each year. Do both cards count for that? Thank you for any information you all can give.

Impossible to answer unless it is known what it costs you. Yes, there is a visa with no annual fee but would charging on the disney visa mean you are not charging on another card with an annual fee and better rewards just to get notification of free dining? if thats the case, the answer is probably no...its not worth it. If getting the card with no annual fee meant you started using the card for every purchase but couldn't pay off the balance just have early access to free dining, the answer is no. If getting the card with no annual fee meant you would pay off the balance each month and would only be using it in place of echecks, debit cards, paper checks etc then yes, the card and rewards would be worth it.

The answer is, it all depends on how you use it and what you would be using it in place of.

It all depends on how you use it. We have the premier visa but use it for everything- all monthly expenses and then pay it off completely. Because we filter so much through the card, it works for us.

We started with the no annual fee card but the points missed by not having the premier was more than just paying the annual fee.

On our last trip we had close to $900 in rewards dollars- that covered a lot of dining and spending money.

I get what you are all saying. I basically want it for the perks of promotional announcements. I would use it mainly for little things as I don't use Credit cards much.

I have the no-fee card and use it for all of our family's shopping and charges. After six months of use, we had $250 in rewards points that helped with our trip. The only way to get notified of upcoming specials is to sign up for email notifications on the chase website. They don't automatically let you know about specials just for having the card. Also, last fall, there was no early bird for free dining for Disney Visa holders--the first year they did that in while. That said, we used the card in the park quite a bit--discounts on all park merchandise over $50, Disney Visa Meet and Greet, and discounts at some of our favorite restaurants--The Wave, Biergarten, HBD, Citricos, Sanaa, etc. We use the card for everything when we know we have an upcoming trip. Otherwise, we will go back to either Citibank double cash or our Southwest card.

Going to add the most of the promotional announcements are for things like 25% off Disneystore.com, etc. There are a few heads up for parties in the parks, but, as I said, no early bird for free dining last year.

I have an unrelated question about the Disney Visa... I just signed up for one two days ago. The card hasn't come yet. Could I call Disney when it comes and have them reverse than recharge things such as my dining plan to the Disney Visa? Would a Disney Dining plan count towards double points? Also, I want to do the same for Lilo's Playhouse. Does anyone know if there is a discount for Lilo's playhouse with the Disney Visa?

I agree with this. In 2014 I had to watch the boards here to find out that the FD promo was coming up. I called in the morning and booked my trip and had everything planned out and didn't get an email from Disney Visa until the next day.
That year I did get to book a couple of days before the general public, but I'm not sure that applies anymore.
I even called that year and Disney told me it was Visa's responsibility to notify me. Then I called Visa and they told me it was Disney's...
So if your main reason for getting it was for notifications, I'd just rely on these boards instead!

Ok, I won't rely on the Visa for notifications. But if I see on here that FD is being offered for Disney Visa holders, can I take advantage of that if I have the fee free card?

The cards offer the same perks (using the word "perk" very loosely). The difference is the one with the fee accrues more points per dollar spent.

There has never been an offer for free dining for Disney Visa holders. The only offer was that they allowed Disney Visa holders to book a day or so in advance of the rest of the public. But, they did not even have that perk last year. So, if you are thinking about applying only for that, definitely get the one without a fee, because you may not even use it. There are much better reward cards out there than the Disney one.

I got the fee free Disney Visa last year in hopes of using it for 2 trips we had planned for this year. I never got notified of the release of promotions that I was waiting for and only found out that the discounts had been released by reading on these boards.

I did end up booking two trips for this year with the Disney Visa but ended up cancelling both reservations and got a much better deal for both trips through Orbitz. PLus I had to call to make the Disney Visa reservations, and I hate doing that. I like to do everything myself, online.

Now my Disney Visa is hidden away somewhere, because I don't really see a use for it. I have no desire to accumulate points that I can only spend at Disney. I have another Visa that I use for all my charging, which I can get cash back for (to spend where I choose) or get a credit on my statement.

Disney Visa does a poor job of notifying until long after it's happening. Your best bet for that is social media.

I would say I get notified of about half the perks, usually I have to go to the website to find them out.

Last year Disney Visa got no advance booking of Free Dining - a huge loss of perk.

I guess we'll know in a few weeks if there will be Fall Free Dining.

The only REAL perk for me - if they still offer it - is no interest for 6 mos on Disney packages. I've never used it.

I don't use most the small discounts because I have an AP and do better with that.

I have the no fee Disney Visa card and for our first trip, I used it for everything that I charged. It gave me $450 that I used to pay towards the trip cost and then I still accumulated more rewards after that payment and had those rewards put onto a rewards card which I took on the trip to pay for dining, souvenirs, etc.

This trip I did it differently. I now have a cash back credit card that gives me better rewards than the Disney Visa. I use the Disney Visa for a few purchases a year and to use to pay for my Disney trip. I use my cash back card for everything else. The cash I get from the cash back goes towards paying off the Disney Visa card trip payment. Does that make sense? If we ever get to go to Disney again, I'm actually considering just using the cash back credit card completely and accumulate the cash back money to pay for the trip. I got a discount on our trip this year but it wasn't from having the Disney Visa.

This trip, I used the Disney Visa card to get discounts on tours at the parks, and like someone mentioned before, certain restaurants give discounts too.

Once you get a rewards card (call at least 2 weeks before your trip to get your card mailed to you), you can just call them to have any additional rewards loaded onto the rewards card. They told me you can have that done even while you are on your Disney trip. Just call them and they will load any rewards that are available.

Appreciate all the responses. looks like it probably isn't worth it for me. Thanks all!
