To get the $50 credit, does the whole cruise need to be paid with that card or just the final payment?

The whole cruise. Deposit to final payment.

I've read on here from someone (blanking on who) that if you add on pre-paid gratuities and/or airport transfers before boarding those must be on the Disney Visa as well or the OBC is voided. Not sure if that is correct, but I was going to use my Disney Visa Check card anyway. (Yep, it qualifies as well. Assuming it continues for 2017.)

Don't know about that. The transfers and pre-paid gratuities aren't really part of the cruise fare. I don't see why that should affect it. Maybe, if the gratuities & transfers are paid for before the cruise is paid in full, it's considered part of the fare, don't know. :confused3

Yeah. I don't know. Like I said, I planned to use my card anyway, so it's a moot point. But it might be worth asking if someone was wanting to pay those on a different card.

I was thinking about doing the same thing, and using the Visa to get the credit. I then calculated getting $100 disney gift cards from Bjs. When you buy a single $100 GC you pay 94.99. Saving $5.01 every hundred. saving you $50 for every thousand... times that by how much the cruise is.. seems better than a $50 on board credit.

Also know that if you did an OBB, you can't also get the $50 Disney Visa onboard credit. You only get one onboard credit from Disney. We learned the hard way. :( But you can combine the $50 Disney Visa onboard credit with a TA onboard credit.

Last year we used a combination of our Disney Visa and the points (reward $'s) earned from using that card to pay for our cruise. We received the beverage credit, no problem.

Plus, if you use your Disney Visa at BJs, you get 1% back in Disney rewards anyway - so another $10 for every $1000. So if you're spending more than $1000 on a cruise (ha!), you're already better off going that way. The only other benefit is the zero interest for 6 months, which, if you needed that, you could get a better card with 18 months no interest, and probably better rewards or intro offers.

So here's my dilemma - i just applied for a Disney visa and got approved - but I'm supposed to put down my deposit this weekend. Is there any way to use the visa to pay the deposit before the actual card comes in the mail? Hate to miss out on the $50 credit.

Unless they gave you the account number and all the card info (expiration date, security code) over the phone - which I seriously doubt - then nope. Sorry! :(

I booked a a Disney cruise last week and the cast member on the phone told me if I get the visa they can transfer the deposit. I paid with a card I already had and then she transferred me to Chase to apply for the card. When it comes in I could call back and transfer the deposit.
The representative from Chase won't give you the card number over the phone. They can't even tell you the credit limit they just know approved or not.
You should ask when you go to make your deposit if this is possible.
I only got it for the $250 gift card, and maybe I'll transfer a small balance for the 0% .

Sorry for newbie questions. What's OBB? As for the $50 Disney Visa credit, I am assuming it's only applicable to bookings made directly with Disney, right?

LAX

OBB = OnBoard Booking

If you're asking if you can pay for the cruise via a travel agent using the Disney Visa - yes.

Good tip. Now, do you get 6 months financing on OBB placeholders?

Is Bj's only 1%? we have the premier.. i was thinking it was 2% since it has groceries lol

I meant to quote you.. lol is BJs only 1%? thought it was 2%
I hope to be able to cash out a nice redemption card before the cruise. Right now I am going on a solo trip to WDW in Nov so I'm saving for that for me.. and then after that everything is going towards the cruise. we use ours like a debit card and basically pay it off every weekend.

I have a premier card as well. Just checked chase.com and for my BJ's charges, it shows a 1% "Earn on all other purchases" for the reward.

I also have a Chase Freedom card which is currently offering 5% bonus reward for wholesale clubs. I just used that to buy some discounted Disney gift cards (about 4% discount) That I will add to my Disney Vacation Account to pay for an upcoming cruise.

Unfortunately if you pre-pay gratuities, they also have to be on the disney visa. I found this out the hard way. They become part of the fare. And if I recall correctly they send you an updated confirmation stating the gratuities become non refundable as per the pif schedule. It was about a year and a half ago that this happened. I could probably go find the receipt. I never prepay anymore.
