Disney Visa question

I hope I'm not flamed for asking this, but here goes. My niece is booking her first Disney cruise, and she was going to purchase it using her mom's non-Disney credit card since she doesn't have one herself. I was just wondering if I could pay for it with my Disney Visa so she could get the onboard credit, or does the named cardholder have to be in the cabin?

I believe that as long as the entire cruise is paid for with the Disney Visa then you'll get the OBC. If you pay the cruise in installments and even one of them is not on the same Disney Visa as all of the rest (or not on a Disney Visa at all) then you won't get the credit.

I'd just double check the rules when booking, but I think you'll be all set.

Do you know where I could find the rules? I'm not sure if my original post was clear after I re-read it, but just to clarify, I'm not going to be in the cabin with my niece. That's why I wasn't sure if it would be allowed.

One tip I just found out - even if you book with the Disney Visa, the on-board credit is not automatic, you have to ask for it.

I booked 2 rooms with my disney visa. I obviously can't be in 2 different rooms at the same time, but I did get the on board credit for each room separately. I don't think you have to be in the room to get the OBC.

Also look out for bonus offers to increase the DRD (NOT on board credit). Here is a post where I described what I received.

I booked a room for my family and then I also booked a room for my friends family using the disney visa card. Both rooms received the onvboard credit:)

So you don't have to show the credit card you used to book the cruise when you check in at the port?

OBC is only based on how the cruise is paid for, not what card you use onboard.

But I thought I remember being asked for the credit card I used for booking when I checked in. If I pay for my niece's cruise with my Visa, then she won't be able to produce my credit card when she checks in. Or am I not remembering correctly that it's necessary to show the card you booked with?

When you fill your forms out online, one of them is a credit card form where you specify the credit card to be used for your onboard account. You print this form and bring it with you. This is the card that they want to see. If it is the same as the one you paid with fine, if not, that is fine too. They won't know and don't care at that point.

Yes, I did understand that and I think you'll be all set. To know for sure why not give DCL a quick phone call?

I just called DCL because I used my Disney Visa for the downpayment and plan to use to to pay off my cruise. I was told that the $50 stateroom credit was incompatible with the $100 credit I got for booking on board (booked during Oct DVC Member Cruise). Has anyone been able to combine the Visa credit with another stateroom credit offer?

No. you can't get both the on board rebook credit and the Disney Visa credit. We asked about it at on our 2nd cruise because we had gotten the notices in the stateroom about the rebook credit and the OBC from AAA. Guest Services called Visa for us and were told that you cannot combine the two.

I got a Disney Visa specifically to try and get the additional OBC, but when I went to pay our TA told us we could NOT combine the visa offer with our existing OBC for having re-booked during a previous cruise. Oh well!

The good news is that I now have several months to pay off my cruise with no interest from the credit card people, so the new card was still worth it.

...not to mention you will earn Reward Dollars.

We used some of our Reward Points from our Disney Visa to pay part of our cruise. Does anyone know if this now makes us inelligible for the onboard credit? We've used the Disney Visa to pay for the rest of the cruise & then paid off the card when the bill comes in so that we would earn extra points for some spending money on the cruise. This is our first cruise & I'm learning now that there are many things that I should have done differently to save money.

on my last cruise, we had 3 rooms. One I booked on board so I got that OBC. The others, I booked with DCL (and used the Disney Visa) but later transferred to 2 different TAs (Costco & AAA) to get their offers/OBC, so the OBC I got from selecting my TA was more than what I would have gotten from the Visa card. I also used A LOT of points to help pay for 1 room, but I don't know the answer to: if you pay wiht points and the card, do you retain the OBC. That's a good question to ask DCL (and report the answer here)
