Disney Visa - Premier/Rewards??

I used to say that too. But I changed my mind back in 2008 when I realized that paying a $75 annual fee for the Bank of American Alaska Airlines Visa got me 20K in miles, which I used for a round trip ticket to Disneyland.

I do not fly anymore 'period' so those type cards are no use to me - we get lots of incentives from different companies but we are not interested - sure they would be worth it in miles for those that enjoy (or tolerate) the friendly skies. :)

it does depend on what you spend on. i like the perks offered with the Disney Visa credit card. when i cashed in my rewards after 5 years of using the non-annual fee card, i had about $600 of rewards to use (issued to me on a separate Disney visa card that expired in 1 year). in '12, i decided to upgrade to the premier card just to see how my rewards built up this time around & when i just redeemed my rewards for my upcoming trip, i got about $1200 back. not too bad. i do dine out a lot, so if that's how you will use your Disney visa, then it might be something you can use.
Perks i like: usage of the Chase Lounge during food & wine festival, free pic with characters everyday at epcot & discounts on dining in certain restaurants in downtown disney that don't usually have discounts. have a look at the perks page. the billing statements you receive also breakdown how much you earned that month in 2% rewards & 1% rewards. if you are more diligent than i am, you can record it monthly to get a better idea of if that's worth it to you. it was my initial plan to do so, but i never got a spread sheet going for it, so i can only use the total result of my rewards earnings in '05 to '10 compared to '10 to '15.
i can understand how some other cards that don't charge fees may be more appealing, but using my Disney visa everyday just makes me smile & that's not for everyone.

We earned a lot less rewards this year than last year---$1212 last year versus $782 this year.....Does anyone know if Wal-mart and Target count as grocery stores for the 2%? What about Walmart Neighborhood Market? We have a Walmart Neighborhood Market (which is just like a regular grocery store), but it's not located as conveniently as the regular Walmart near our house. If Walmart doesn't count as a grocery store, but the Walmart Neighborhood Market does, we can load up Walmart gift cards for our estimated monthly grocery budget at the Neighborhood Market and then just use them at the conveniently located Walmart. Any thoughts on whether either one of these Walmarts get 2% back?

What about the gas stations at Walmart (since technically they're listed as Murphy USA, so I would think that MAYBE we would get the 2% there)?.....or paying for our gas using a Walmart gift card bought at a Walmart Neighborhood Market, if that constitutes 2%.

I looked at our Chase account online and it doesn't actually tell how many reward points were earned at a specific merchant....

My wife called Disney Visa a few months ago when we decided to upgrade and asked about Walmart. The person on the other end of the line said that if the Walmart carries groceries, then it will be considered a grocery store. From my own person experience with the bill, even though things aren't broken down by specific merchant, getting 2% back from Walmart falls inline with the amount of rewards we've earned so far.

We only use our Disney card for groceries and gas, and shop frequently at Target. All of our dollars have earned 2%, so it seems Target counts.

I would like to know, when we redeem our reward card, how long does it take to get your redemption card? I'm planning on using our redemption card for "extras" in the parks.

I just redeemed mine this month. I think it takes 2 weeks for the rewards card to be sent to you? since the start of the new month, my deleted emails that had the specifics have been wiped so I can't confirm the timeframe. I believe you can also go online to redeem the rewards. maybe they will have the timeframe info there? sorry I couldn't be of more help. :(

Actually, it all depends on how Chase has your particular Walmart coded in their system. It may be grocery, or it may be a discount or department store. Regardless of what you buy. My local Walmart does carry groceries but it is in the Chase system as a discount store and earns 1% rewards; the Walmart about 30 miles away is in the system as a grocery store so that one earns the 2% rewards. If you've had your card since at least 2014 (before a calendar change), you should have received a year-end summary statement that shows you how each vendor you charged is categorized. It's available through your online account access.

I have used my card at five different Walmarts in my area and none of them earned me 2%. Neither does my Target, BJs, or Costco. Basically, I am wasting my money on the Premier card because I do not earn enough extra points to make it worthwhile.

If you want to know how a certain store is "coded" for you, take a look at your year end statement. It will have your purchases broken down by category. Walmart in my area is a "discount store" not grocery.

Quick question about disney visa .. whst is the character perk and how do i use it? Also you can get a free 5 x7 photo?

Go to the specific area (depends on which resort you are visiting) for a private meet & greet with select characters. When you check in they will give you a "coupon" for a the free photo (must be of that meet & greet).

I get the Alaska card just for the companion fare. Our family of 4 is going to Kauai this August and we have 2 Alaska credit cards. We bought two tickets for $750 and the second two tickets were $119 thanks to the credit card. I was looking at going to Orlando next February and the tickets are around $1350. At least I could get two tickets at $119 so paying $75 per year for each of the credit cards is a great deal.

Thank you.
Headed to the site now to see if I can figure out how my Walmart is coded.

Just got a new credit card offer yesterday from another company that offers 3X at Restaurants, supermarkets, & gas stations. I may be splitting my buying between two cards now with Disney Visa for travel and the new one for everything else. :(

This.

It looked as if my Walmart was classified as a grocery store on my annual statement, but my gut is telling me its not.

Yep, under my year end statement they have my local Wal-mart under grocery stores and drug stores. But my gut is telling me that with the Premier card that would change.

How exactly do you transfer your rewards to a redemption card?

I could have sworn that the last time I did it, I just called the number on the card. - But I just tried, and couldn't find that as a menu option.

We plan to upgrade to the premier next year, mostly because after doing our budget and crunching the numbers we found we spend enough on our once yearly Disney trip (to wdw, dlr, or dcl depending on the year) and dining out to offset the annual fee. For us, we also really like that you can redeem toward airfare (for when we go to Disneyland) and the no foreign transaction fees was a big plus for us since we do travel abroad about once every other year. It all depends on how much you spend in a year and where you spend it. It also functions as a good "backup" card for cash back for us if we hit the yearly caps on gas and grocery we get through American Express, so we are at least getting 2% cash back instead of 1%. That isn't so much a problem now but as we grow our family we may be hitting those caps more quickly! :)
