Disney Visa or Target Gift Cards?

Hi! I'm looking for general on-board spending advice. For Disney World we like to buy Disney Gift Cards at Target using our Red Card for the 5% discount. But now we also have a Disney Visa card and I hear there is a 10% discount on certain purchases on ship. Any advice on when/how to use these payment methods for different types of purchases? Does everything go on your KTTW card and then you pay afterwards, or should I be carrying around Disney Visa, gift cards AND KTTW card? I imagine we'll have some souvenir purchases but I'm guessing we'll be spending on a lot of drinks, Palo, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, movie snacks, etc.

Also, aside from the 6-month no interest financing, does the Disney Visa provide any other cruise perks?

We put our Disney Visa down as our method of payment for charges and got the 10% discount in shops but we took gift cards periodically to guest services to apply them to our account before our credit card was charged.

I think the Disney Visa card has a minimum purchase to receive the 10% discount ($50?). We’ve used it in the Park gift shops before, but the discount only applied on larger purchases.

Yep, $50 minimum is correct. We just got off the Fantasy last Saturday and that is what we had to spend for them to give us the discount.

Everything on the ship goes onto your KTTW card so you don't need to carry anything other than that. I use Disney gift cards that I get at discount from Target to pay for the cruise, to buy stuff on the cruise and I only leave my Disney Visa as the on board method of payment in case I run over. I go to guest services usually the first day and have them automatically apply a minimum of $100 to my on board account with gift cards. Then I check with them throughout the cruise to see what I've spend and what my pending charges are. If I go over, out comes another gift card. LOL The only thing I really use my visa card for on board is to book another cruise. Save money doing this and I never commit to a date so I book a "dummy cruise" and worry about the dates later.

One important aspect to receive the DCL onboard discounts -- you must set-up your onboard account to be backed by your Disney Visa credit card. All onboard charges will go the onboard account via your KTTW, which is notated for the Disney Visa allowing you to receive the discount where available. However, you can stop by Guest Services and use the gift cards to pay down the balance before they charge the credit card.

Enjoy your cruise!

Great idea

Bjs sells Disney gift cards at a 4% discount with free shipping. You can get them with an online membership which costs $10 per year.

The Sam's Club near us (08096) had $150 Disney gift cards for $142.?? (can't remember what the change was). It was cheaper than the local BJ's.

Or 17.5% interest rate

Ha!

If you are not gold or platinum, you can use your DCL Visa, BEFORE the cruise, to buy yourself an OBC of whatever you think you will spend, then you get 6 mos. to pay it off no interest, then link the card to your account, but spend down your OBC . Then you get the discount on purchases over 10%. Or you can do the gift card thing...
