Last year they let ppl with the Disney Visa get deals first before the public. Do they do that anymore?

I believe so but it is only like a few weeks earlier I think

It used to be but lately I'm finding it NOT to be the case. The last few GP offers were not released ahead of time to the cardholders. The main reason I got this card back in '05 was b/c of that perk & since it doesn't seem to be happening I, personally, have been thinking about getting rid of my card as I no longer see the benefit of keeping it. There are so many other cards that offer better rates and better incentives/rewards IMHO.

I agree with the last person. I have not seen any good offers released early recently. I was able to book FD one week early for fall 2010. But it was only a week, and last years I cant remember because we went earlier in the year. I really couldn't find a good reason to keep it so I cancelled mine. That was the reason I got it, with other perks, and all of them turned out to be not so great. Just dont think the week gave me any advantage- unless you are looking for a specific room that sells out fast. Like the OP said, other cards have better perks.

and if they were gonna release early how would we find out about this? i also have this card (for the % off at the store and the gift card bonus for opening it) and wanna know where to look. i havnt used it in months so i dont get a monthly statement

I hope they still do it like they did when I went Aug '10 because I was able to call the day it was released and go to the same resort I had (and wanted really bad) with the FD but someone else I know tried to get it when it was released to the general public a week (or it may have only been 3 days) later and the FD rooms for the week after we were going were filled already, so they had to choose a different mod. (They still had a great time, of course!)

I agree with you here...I believe the last time I saw it released to the cardholders first was in 2010 as well and we were able to book the AKL with FD in Nov. I know last year, I never saw a promo come out to the cardholders before it went to the GP...it was very frustrating!

Used to Visa card holders and AP holders got first dibs at the discounts, then they'd come out a few days later for the GP. For the last year or so, Disney has reversed that trend. I don't think I've used a Visa card holder discount since mid 2010 and in the last year even AP holder discounts have been coming out after GP discounts, which don't make a lick of sense.:confused3 We just have to book with the GP code (to make sure we get something) then call back and have them switch to an AP discount when the AP codes come out. I go several times a year and last year had to switch one of my trips three different times, because a different code would come out that would beat my existing one.:rotfl::confused3

At least it just kept getting better. A good problem to have if you're going to have one. :) I'm still anxiously awaiting any code of any kind. Please Disney!!!!!

For a while yes. But prior to that it was always APs that got them first. Now some have gone to the GP first. Lately WDW has been doing all sorts of tweaking and changes to their discount system. Adding tons of blackout dates, having different discounts for different hotels within the same class, and even within the same hotel. And lots of discounts seem to be going out as PINs and not publicly announced. So I don't think there is a good guess any more. You can see historical release dates here -> http://www.mousesavers.com/historicalwdwdiscounts.html but you really need to just keep watching.

I agree. I was shocked when we didn't get advanced notice last year for free dining and other discounts as well. I'm seriously rethinking our Disney Visa as well.

I feel like we should complain to Disney Visa since that is listed as one of the perks.

I actually did call them to voice my opinion & disappointment and I honestly felt like it fell on deaf ears. I asked them point blank about whether or not this was a perk that was no longer going to be offered. They danced around the question, wouldn't give a straight answer and I hung up beyond ANNOYED!

All I know is that my trip coming up, my disney reward dollars is paying for 50% of my resort cost:) Yes there are some better % back cards but I know myself and if I get cash back it will be going towards bills:sad1: I always pay the balance off because no way I am paying their ridiculous % rate. At least with the disney card it has to be something disney. But I have noticed that the benefits have been bad over this last couple of years. Whatever happen to those specials they had at a higher % back during some months? I have always used an AP rate for my reservations, mainly because they are still usually about 3-5% better then GP discounts.
