Disney Visa Discount- changing from room only to package?

Can you do this? I am at work and trying to help my mom do this for her reservation- she now has room only Thanksgiving week at POFQ. Can she change to a package and get the discount or does she already have to have a package?

I had a room only reservation with a AAA discount, and when Visa package came out I called, wanting to switch my room only reservation to a package. A very nice CM told me that she would have to book a new package for me, and charge me the $200 deposit, and then cancel the room only reservation and credit back my deposit on that. She said they can't upgrade room only to a package, because I think the reservations are on different systems for room only and packages.

Yep, that was the case with me too. I had a room-only reservation that was almost paid off (via monthly CC payments). When I called to switch to the DVMYW package the CM made a new reservation for the package, charged my Disney Visa the $200 deposit, and then cancelled my room-only reservation crediting my CC for the total I'd already paid. She said the credit should appear on my CC account in 7-10 business days. When that credit comes through I'll turn around and charge that amount back to the card as a payment towards the package. Then I'll only have ~$400 left to pay off.

Thanks guys! That is what they did- cancelled the old reservation and put in a new one. They had to change from POFQ to POR to get the discount, but it worked!

What if you already made a room/ticket reservation for let's say December and now you wanted to cancel it so you can get a deal with this new VISA package, are you going to get charged a cancelation fee? From the quote I just got it will save us $300 for my mil's package and that's enough to pay for her airfare!!

I'm not sure on this, but I don't think she was charged any cancellation fee to change from a room only to a package. Definitely call now and see! They are going Thanksgiving week and there were no more discounted rooms available at POFQ and they got the last two at POR. They only allow so many discounted rooms at each resort, so call and see!

shouldn't be a problem, because you have up to 45 days in advance of your arrival to make changes or cancel w/o penalty. if room only i think you have up to 5 days in advance. so plenty of time!!

If you have a room/ticket reservation (i.e. package), they don't have to cancel it and book one with a Visa discount, and they can just apply the discount to your reservation if the discount is available for your dates and room type.

well after waiting for 45 mins.....the code won't help me much so I am keeping my 20% AAA discount.
I have already bought my tickets so its just not worth the hassle to change.

He told me this will be the only code for that time and I should just keep my AAA discount if I had my tickets already bought.

So its still not a bad deal...I am happy

So yesterday I got on the phone and started to make our changes. You all were correct, there wasn't any cancellation fees because it was outside the 45 days. Our confirmation numbers changed but we saved -- are you ready for this -- on four vacations we saved a total of $1500!!!!!

For my mil the $300 savings for her paid for her airfare. My bil saved $500, my parents $300 and we saved $400 - unbelievable!!
