Was wondering if anyone has ever used the checks you sometimes get in with your statement. You know..the ones they tell you to use and it's usually a lower interest rate or something for a time period.
I've never used one..but I'm trying to accumulate points on our Rewards card. I have a school tax bill due May 10th..and was thinking I might use one. I'd just use the Chase Visa card itself..but they charge 2.75% extra for credit card payments. Normally I just write a check...and that had me thinking..maybe I could use the Disney Visa Check. The town gets their taxes..without an additional 2.75%..because I'm paying by check..only it gets billed to my card, where I'd be able to get some 40 points. I'd pay the Chase bill the same day..just go to Chase and pay off the charge. Did that last week with some airline tickets..where we get 5 X's the rewards for a promo running now.
Anyway, never have used the Chase checks? I usually just shred them. Wondered if it's billed to your account any differently or if anyone has had experience doing this? Thanks for the input.;)

Read the fine print because those checks usually have a fee, like 3% (with a $50 minimum). They are treated like a balance transfer. I have never used them because of the fees.

I never use them because of the fees. I don't use any checks from any credit cards. They all have fees and although 0% seems like a good idea, just paying off my cards and not using them seems like a better one.

Really..I'm gonna look then. I didn't realize. I didn't want to use the cc because the town charges 2.75% ..so then I sure as heck wouldn't want to use the checks if charged a fee. Sort of defeating the purpose. My thinking is I prefer to put a big ticket items on the cc before a trip, so as to accumulate points. I pay it off before the statement even comes. If I put plane tickets or things of that nature on the card..I simply go to a chase branch and make a payment the same day..and still get the points. Thought the tax bill might be a good opportunity..it's a school tax of some $4,000..(don't ya love Long Island?). Oh well..not if there's a fee. Thanks for the input..I never would have realized. Back into the shredder with those!

I haven't actually read the fine print on those in a while so I certainly could be wrong but sometimes those types of checks don't qualify for rewards anyway. I know it was that way with one of my other cards.

ETA: Okay, I got out my most recent checks and read the fine print. It states: "Transactions from this offer do not count towards your reward program." So using those checks doesn't help you earn faster anyway.
