Disney Visa Card

It's awesome...we travel in Oct. a lot...so we use our Disney Dollars to splurge on MNSSHP tickets or other souvenirs.

Also, the best part is you get to pick a disney designed card. I've got Buzz/Woody on my card...I get a lot of comments from cashiers...that's so cool!!!

We to are charter card holders -I usually use my card for large purchases and pay off right away -last year I used it when I got furniture -payed for a vacation
last summer pay dvc dues ect and all during the holiday season -I rack up points during the year to use for fun or splurge things while at Disney -
I am waiting to hear about an 160 pt add on contract and I have the cash but was thinking about using it to pay for that -It would Kinda be like my own Disney incentive gift card -
Has anybody ever done this ?

For us it is totally worth it. I have no idea what our APR is, we pay it off every month. So it seems like the "cash" we earn is free money. I charge almost everything on it, so the points add up quickly:thumbsup2 We usually have enough to pay for one AP.

The Disney Visa is basically a 1% Disney cash back offer. The kicker is that you have to use the rewards on Disney merchandise or Disney related items. We just used our points to help pay for our DVC annual dues.

Yes, we used our Disney Visa to put a $5000 down payment on our initial direct purchase at BLT. 6 months deferred. Late last year we did a 100 pt add on and paid for it total with the card, 2 installments. Paid off the 1st one and keeping the second half 6 months deferred. The rewards really add up. If you have the cash, use the card and then pay off the total, no interest. :goodvibes

Thanks for all the great comments. The APR doesn't matter to me since we'll pay it off each month. We're going to get it.

Although the card is worthwhile, you might find better "incentives" from other cards.

For the last few years, my wife and I have been using the Disney card because we actually use the 1% back on disney trips. But, last year we bought into DVC and have been using AirTran for our flights. They too have a card (doesn't everyone nowadays) and it actually looks like it would be better for us than the Disney card. That's assuming though, we always fly with them to go once/twice a year to Disney. They are currently the only airline in our area that has direct flights to Orlando and also the cheapest.

Although my numbers aren't exact, we generally have about $300 to $400 in Disney Dollars from the Disney Card each year. If I was to use the AirTran card, we would have been able to get "free" flights each year for our whole family of four (approx $900-1,000 and that's assuming I get the tickets when the fares are at their lowest). AirTrans A+ Visa gives you a free ticket for every $8,000 spent on the card, while that would work out to only $80 using the Disney Card.

Because of this I'm thinking we will probably switch to the AirTran Visa soon. This is also assuming that I understand how AirTrans' program works! If someone is using the AirTran A+ Visa, please correct me if I am wrong!

My two cents...

We accumulated just over $500 in points last year - used them to pay dues last month.

I would agree with Evan, it is nice to have the money to use at Disney or for dues, however there may be other cards that pay more or give you more valuable freebies. I have the Disney visa, I also have a Schwab Visa that gives me 2% cash back which is double the Disney visa and I can use it anywhere, I have GM card that give me 5%, however you have to use this money towards any GM vehicle, it might be worthwhile to have several cards and use the one that works best for the current situation, just a thought:)

:) DH and I both have a charter card and have the Gang on ours. We had over $400 last year and already have about $30 going into this year. It is the only CC we use. Last year we used it for dinning at WDW.

MIL is a charter member and has Nemo--she has had about $150 on her card at one time.

BIL is a newer member--he has Nemo, too.

Several months ago my local DIS group met for dinner and our Meeting. All of us have "the card" and the cashier wondered what was going on when we got up to pay. She loved it.

I am also a "Day One Owner of the Disney Card"....I use it to get "rewards" and upload those rewards to the card before I make a trip to WDW. The pictures are also nice...as I have a Photo History of what we looked like that year.

With those two options/assets....its a good choice for a card if plan on more than one trip to WDW per year. You can also use the Rewards Points in the parks and in the stores at Downtown Disney too.
Enjoy--!

The rewards points are equal to 1% back. We used the card primarily for the 6 months 0% vacation package financing. However, now that we own DVC, it has become less valuable to us.

We get better "money back" perks on our other cards.

We have two Disney VISA cards. We use them for everything and DH pays them off online every week. I love it when they give us extra incentives. Right now if we charge at least $3,000 a month on one of the cards, we get 5% back on the card. We normally get an incentive like that on each of the cards once a year. The last extra incentive we had gave us 3% back on gas, hotels, food, and airline tickets. Weird, but great for us. We bought tickets to Spain on that one. For our DCL Med cruise in August we had over $1,200 in rewards for the year to use on the cruise.

I also have a Schwab Visa that gives me 2% cash back which is double the Disney visa and I can use it anywhere,

I did a quick scan on the internet and it seems this is no longer offered. Do you know if that's true? If so, were you grandfathered in?

I've had my card for approximately one year. I've been very happy with it and as a PP stated, the smiles I get from cashiers when they see "Tink" is worth it alone. However, beginning with my January 2011 statement, I noticed a "Minimum Interest Charge" of $1.50. That type charge had never appeared on previous statements. Now, it has shown up again on my February statement. When I read the "fine print" on page 6 (about middle of page) of the Cardmember Agreement it states "Minimum Periodic Finance Charge $1.50 (If any periodic finance charge is payable for a billing cycle)."

I've always paid the card off completely each month; never late. So, can anyone tell me why, after a year of using the card this charge has started to appear? TIA

I think it is definitely worth it. The reward dollars are dollar for dollar no matter what discount or sale you get while purchasing. As a DVC member, you still have to purchase tickets and maybe DDP.

And you'd be amazed how many times a Nemo card will get you extra friendly service. It can make the grumpiest cashier smile.

Cashiers sure do love Nemo cards :fish: most of them haven't seen that one and they always comment how cute or how much they love Nemo!

is there an annual fee on the card?

No, there is no annual fee on the card.

Other pros of Disney Visa:
-0% interest for 6 months on vacation packages and DVC purchases,
-free 5x7 photo (one daily by visiting Epcot or DCA),
-1% cash back (with various offers to earn a higher %, I think usually 3%, over a specified time period),
-Discount at DisneyStore and World of Disney (usually 10% off purchases more than $50),
-Discount at some restaurants and tours in WDW and DL (not as familiar with these as I haven't used these discounts yet),

Cons of Disney Visa:
Other cards offer a cash back offer greater than 1%. I used to use my Disney Visa for everything other than pharmacy, grocery, and gas because I could get 5% back on another card. Well that other card changed their program where the 5% categories change every 3 months and the non-5% categories end up being some odd percent greater than 1%.

Hmm, I always pay my statement balance off monthly too and also got an interest charge on the statement that just closed :confused3. I am trying to figure out why by looking at my past few statements, but of course can't. What I did find odd is that I paid the same amount in December and Janauary, what are the chances that my balances were exactly the same both months? Wondering if something could have been messed up with the system and my current statement balance wasn't updated correctly when I paid (online). I should call to see if it can be looked into, but I have an inkling there isn't a specific record of the amount options that were on the payment screen when I paid that day, and I wouldn't have manually typed in such an odd amount myself...

I got caught with that once. On the day that your statement rolls over, the payment screen still shows last month's amounts. I hit statement balance and it was last month's amount, then I got hit with interest the next month because it was a lower amount. I always double check statement balance vs current balance before I setup the payment now.
