Disney Visa Card

I recently purchased BLT and charged a majority of the purchase on my Chase Disney Visa card for the 6-month deferred interest. When I received my statement today, I noticed that they applied a finance charge to my account even though I pay the balance off in full (minus the deferred balance). When I investigated why this occurred, I realized that they incorrectly applied a store credit to my deferred balance vs. my current purchases causing my payment to be $2 short. Because of this they applied interest to all new purchases.

I called Chase to explain the situation and get the finance charge credited, however the front line rep gave me the standard line that due to the economy they can no longer credit finance charges. Of course I asked to speak to a manager, who after reviewing the account tried to claim they did not make a bank error and he could only offer to credit half of the finance charge as a courtesy. After having to explain everything again he finally agreed that the store credit should not have been applied to the deferred balance and he would issue a credit.

I wanted to share this story in case there are others that have a deferred balance on the Disney Visa card so they can watch their statement to ensure that Chase applies your payments and credit correctly. I am hoping that this was an honest error vs. an attempt by Chase try and generate interest.

Economy my rear-end!!! :headache: That's such a bunch of bull.

Thanks so much for posting, and I'm glad they finally did what was right. :thumbsup2

party: :welcome: HOME and to the Disboards!!! party:

Thank you for posting. I am like you, I pay my balance in full and just put my down payment on the card. I will be sure to monitor it closely!!!

Thank you for posting this incident - I also put a large chuck of my DVC on my Disney Visa so I'll make sure and monitor my account as well. Having said that, though, it's really sad that you had to go through all of that work for THEIR error.

I use my Dis Visa for everything, to get the reward points. When we purchased an add on of 50 points at AKV, I put it on my Visa for the 6 month period. However they charged the finance charge stating that if there are other purchases on the card, besides the vacation club purchase, when I pay those purchases in full at the end of the month, that payment is going toward the lowest APR on the balance, so....they were applying my payment of regular purchases to the 0% balance of the vacation club purchase, thereby incurring finance charges on my regular purchases. I argued the point with them, they removed the finance charge, but said it would happen month after month if I continued to use my card for everyday purchases and left the DVC purchase on the card for the 6 months. I argued about that, got nowhere, decided it wasn't worth the aggravation, and paid the DVC purchase in full right then and there. :scared1:

I hear mixed stories with different situations with a DVC purchase made with a Dis Visa that has everyday purchases on it. From now on, IF we are to make a future DVC add on purchase, my DH will open a Dis Visa and put the DVC purchase on that, with nothing else on the card to make sure we get the 0% for 6 months.:confused3

There was a time when the 0% offer terms specifically stated that payments would be applied to the regular purchases first. But last time I looked at the fine print that language was gone. So you would have to effectively put nothing else on the card in order to take advantage of the 0%.

We also have the Disney Visa which was originally obtained in my wife's name. We pay the balance each month like you do.

But between the $100 sign up bonus being offered now and the possibility of a VGC add-on, I decided to get a second Disney Visa in my name. If we do go forward with the add-on, I'll put that payment on my new card and just continue to put our everyday purchases on the wife's. Hopefully that will keep us from having to wade thru any red tape at Chase.

We've never had any problems at all with the deferred balance staying separate but I've always paid that statement balance and ignored any store credits. I just let those be a small payment towards the deferred amount over those 6 months.

I heard from my guide that even with the opened visa account, we can still charge it to get 6 month interest free, so you might want to look into that before applying for a new card.

I was worried about a similar thing with my card. We charged our DCL Wonder cruise to get the 6 month no interest, but we used it for other things on our vacation as well. I guess I should call in advance and see how that's going to work.

That is exactly what DiznyDi & I did. We also experienced the way Visa applies any payment to the lowest APR. We also suffered the shock, dismay, and long phone calls working with one Visa customer service person after another to get things fixed as we thought they should be. In the end, the last three add-ons have been straight forward as the only thing on her card is the add-on; all other charges go to mine, untill the add-on is paid off.

We will continue with this strategy when she decides we need another add-on (uh-oh :scared1:)

I also charged a DVC purchase to get the points and the 6 mos promotional deal....

I continued to use the card on a monthly basis but I made sure that I paid off those purchases in its entirety!

Watch the date the large DVC balance is due very carefully! I wouldn't want to have to pay interest on a large DVC balance if it were late!

I monitored the account and had no problems! I'm lucky enough to not have had a penny in interest charges!

Good luck!:goodvibes

When I have charged my Disney vacations in the past few years, I didn't have any issues either but did monitor it closely.

I also not only paid my other purchases in full, I paid at least 1/6th toward the Disney balance as well each month so that by the time the 6th month rolled around, I only had a small portion left.

The date the deal ends does not always correspond with the statement date so it does need to be monitored closely.
