Disney Visa Card Question

Totally true, you get the points, plus the discount; unless you want (or need) the 6 months of financing, than it doesn't work.

The everyday discounted price seems to be about 4%. If you catch a sale, 7-8% seems about the max.

I'm wondering if I can prepay a lump sum towards onboard charges that would cover everything like gratuities, excursions, gift shop purchases, etc. Do I have to specify what I'm prepaying since it all adds up in the end and is all charged to my room? Can I just specify onboard charges?

You have to prepay a specific dollar amount. You can't just say "onboard charges". The onboard account will show an $XX credit and all charges against the account will come off that credit.

Ok thanks, that's what I meant by "lump sum". I would prepay an actual amount but just wanted to make sure that it would cover any charges to the room without specifying.

Yes, if you place money on your onboard account, it will be used toward everything charged to the room -- gratuities, excursions, merchandise purchases, drinks, etc. When I asked my travel agent to pre-pay gratuities with my final payment, what I actually did was place a credit on my account equal to the amount of the suggested gratuities. It's not actually allocated specifically to gratuities. If I chose to pay gratuities in cash instead and asked Guest Services to remove them from my account, the amount I paid in advance could be used for spa treatments or Palo dinners.

Sorry to beat this dead horse. But I want to make sure I fully understand and get this 100% correct.

I have already paid my cruise in full even though not due until July 14th. I paid for more than half of the cruise w/ Disney rewards dollars. I would like to take advantage of 0% financing. What I did pay with the Disney Visa does currently show as 0% not due for 6 months.

I would like to pre-pay gratuities + some on board credits. Neither Disney Cruise Line or Disney Visa could tell me if those would be included as part of the "package" and would qualify for rate. Disney Cruise Line said maybe not since I have already paid in full, but they really did not know.

If I cannot get 0%, I would just buy discounted cards. But 0% would be first choice. Sooo...what say you folks? :)

Why not test it out with $100 or some odd amount?

We have added gratuities (or equivalent) after PIF and yes it qualified for the 0% financing. In simple terms, I believe any funds paid in advance are processed as a “package payment” while once onboard it processes as a “purchase” and that’s why prepaying OBC qualifies for the financing. Disney Visa actually only knows it was paid in advance to DCL, not exactly what you paid for.

Enjoy your cruise!

That is true! We have done 15 cruises with DCL and we do this everytime! Just call and use your Disney Visa to add onboard credit, and it will be 0% for the 6 months!
Does this not work (6 months no interest) if you just use the Disney Visa to pay everything you charge on while on board?

Not sure if this helps for a point of reference (I am not PIF yet), I have a cruise booked for next year. I called a month or so ago to purchase Rainforest room day passes and on my bill I noticed they qualified for the 6 month promotion. Didn't even think about that when I purchased and was surprised to see that line item on my bill. I am definitely going to prepay a lump sum on my account prior to cruising so I can take advantage of that 6 months.
