I just recieved an email asking if I would like to upgrade my disney visa

upgrade and earn 2% in Disney Dream Reward Dollars on card purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney locations.
Earn 1% in Disney Dream Reward Dollars on all other card purchases.

...and now more ways to redeem

Continue to redeem toward most everything Disney.
Redeem toward airline travel on any airline to any destination, anytime.to footnote 2

I see there is a 49.00 charge
What are the perks of this card vs. the older one where you get 1 point per every 100.00 :(

anyone have the premium card?

We have the Premium card and I love it. On purchases at gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores and Disney you get 2 points/$100. Everything else is 1/$100.

There is the $49 yearly charge but we more than make that up in just one month by charging everything to the card.

We definitely recoup our $49 every year! We put everything on our card so the fee is very worth it to us :thumbsup2

I have the regular Disney Visa and found an offer for a $200 gift card if I signed up for the Premiere card in a Disney Insider e-mail. I signed up, charged the $500 minimum, paid the $49 fee and got the gift card. I will be cancelling the Premiere card before the next annual fee is due.

+1 . No other perks, aside from the additional bonus. But we easily make up for the $49 fee, probably on just groceries alone.

Once you charge $5000, the $49 has paid for itself. (You would have made $50 with the 1% card anyway, and the 2% earnings makes up the $49 fee.)

Effectively you earn 1% on the first $5,000 each year, then 2% after that.

Has anyone been offered any bonus for upgrading to Premiere? That would be my only incentive to upgrade.

I was tempted until I just looked it up again. It is only 2% in certain categories - and I get a higher bonus for those categories with other cards. I use Disney Gift Cards almost exclusively on all of our trips, so I won't be charging in the parks, but there are many cards that will give you 2% for travel and dining, so I don't think that's a big bonus either.

If I were offered the $200 sign up bonus I would get it for that, and use it for the free Meet & Greet photos and 10% discounts in the parks, but I would not use it as my points card.

We either got the annual fee waived or 5% on the 2% categories for 90 days...or both, I don't remember.

Unlike a lot of my other cards, the Disney cards doesn't seem to have short-term promos where you get extra points in certain categories. Like this summer I'm getting 5% back on gas on Discover.

I know the Disney card is not *The Best* of the level of rebates, but its the easiest I know of to redeem those points. That's why I haven't bothered getting that am-ex with 3% on groceries, and I sometimes sacrifice 1% that I might get on another card in certain categories. Like my Costco am-ex, has a 1% better gas rebate (3% total), but you only get access to that rebate once a year. With the Disney card (both versions I think) you can access your rebate and move it to a Disney rewards card the day after your statement closes.

The 2% on grocery and gas more than covers the $49 yearly fee for us...we spend about $300 a week on gas and groceries...lets round down a bit and say $15,000 a year...at 1% no fee that is $150 in Disney cash...at the 2% that is $300...minus $49 and we have $251...that's $100 more each year...and that is if we don't include any restaurants.

This trip, we will have totaled up $1,000 in reward dollars (yes, the $200 for signing up is in that...so $800 earned on our own in two years of having the card) which is 1/3rd of our $2,700 trip. I think it is worth it.

The Blue Cash Preferred Amex gives me a statement credit each month (so very easy to redeem :) ) and 6% on groceries up to 6k/yr. I use Costco Amex for Costco gas, and the Blue Amex for other gas stations; both get the 3%. I agree that the once-a-yr Costco rebate is hard to access, and it comes around Christmas so I usually just use it up for that and forget that I had been counting that rebate all through the year in my sale prices! :headache:

There is one other perk for the Premier card -- points can be used towards airline tickets. That's not available with the regular card.

I agree, we charge enough to more than cover the annual fee in extra points earned.

You would have to charge $4900 / month to have recouped the fee in 1 month of spending. (i.e earned an extra $49 rewards in rewards over the "free card")

That's well above what most people would put on the card that time. For most people it's probably worth it (if trying to earn $'s for disney), but it would take them a lot more than 1 month to break even.

We put our Disney Cruise vacations on our card and earn the 2%. So yes, it is possible.

I just got the same offer as the OP with $50 bonus rewards dollars to upgrade.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for an email, and call in a couple weeks to see if I can get this offer if they also waive the fee for the first year.

Me too, seems like a no brainer as I have a trip in November coming up. I asked the question in another thread that If I payoff my 3k balance with this new card will I get 2x points? Hope someone else knows. TIA

Funnel all your bills through it like we do....
Makes us about 30-50 points a month...
