Hello Everyone,

I just recently got my Disney Visa Card and reading through the discounts/benefits area on the Chase site I see so many caveats it made my head spin. :confused3

Sooooo..... I thought I would start with a simple questions.

Beyond traveling planning while shopping or eating at WDW where do you folks use your Disney Visa to get discounts?

Is there a percentage off at certain restaurants and shops? Where do you get the best bang for your buck?

:teacher: Thanks in advance for any tips or trick you can share! :teacher:

I'm not sure there are discounts outside of Disney store and being on Disney property, BUT as you use it for other things your points add up and then you can use it for your park tickets or other Disney.

I use my card for anything that I would normally pay cash. Then during the month I make payments so that I don't accrue interest on my card. My November vacation I had 2 years of saving rewards and had a nice chunk to apply to my vacation.
One thing I found out is that although you get 6 months 0% interest on your vacation, there is some of my payments applied to the vacation instead of the new charges. I suspect it's because I make more than one payment a month.

My son's college lets me use my card to pay tuition, so as you can guess that helps add some rewards dollars fast and I have $$ to now use on another vacation.

So I don't think the discounts are the big deal outside of being at WDW, it's more getting the points.

Hope that makes sense. And make sure when you are on vacation you get your 5x7 at Epcot.

That is what I am asking about, stores and restaurants on Disney property :) What are the discounts and where?

Using your card for your son's tuition, yeah I bet that would rack up the points nicely! :rotfl:

I haven't even dove into how the points all work, and how to redeem them. (I just got the card yesterday!) This year we already have a small trip to WDW planned and paid for, that's why I am asking about on property stuff for now... HOWEVER, next year is our big 10 trip at Animal Kingdom lodge and any way I can save on that the better, so I will have to learn about these points!

5X7 picture at EPCOT?

PS: Do points expire?

The 5x7 picture is a character meet and greet for card members only
I forget the exact time but its like 1 and you can pic th picture up a few hrs later

The points expire in two ways
First if not claimed
Second claimed but not used
The expiration dates are not the same
So if they are coming up to expire, claim them and then you have more time

Honestly Imo the Disney card isn't the greatest as far as rewards go
Another perk though is interest free trip payment

Interest free trip payments? Do you mean every payment made on the Disney Visa to WDW Travel company is interest free?

Ok recap:

1. Disney Visa Picture 5x7 is 1 pm to 7 pm at EPCOT (Can you have them put it on your "Memory Maker" package (this is the new Photo Pass Package)?)

2. Only packages are interest free for 6 months. (Is that from time you make reservation, or from when you take your trip?)

New Additional Questions:

1. Are the specific discounts on property for certain stores, or do all DISNEY OWNED stores give discounts to Disney Visa Card Holders? (I know that alot of the stores in world showcase are owned by corporations in other countries and even annual pass holders don't get discounts in them.)

2. How do redeemed points work, what I mean is do you only use them for paying on Disney tickets and resorts or can you use them to pay for food and merchandise inside WDW and/or DL?

You folks have been truly great, thanks for helping clear this up!

1) MM is the PP+ replacement. Not sure if they can stick it on there but I don't see why they couldn't.

2) The package is interest free on the card from the time you charge it. So if you charge $1000 today you'd have 6 months from today for that to be interest free.

Additional

1) they're for specific stores I believe. Never used it though! I'd assume they're going to be the Disney owned stores. There's a list floating around here somewhere. I don't think it was very big.

2) to redeem points you order a redemption card. It looks like a gift card. You basically just load your points onto this card and use it however you want. You can put it on your reservation, pay for things, etc. just use it like a gift card but KEEP IT because any points you redeem after getting that card will load onto that same redemption card.

aaarcher86: Thanks for the tips! :flower3:

That's what I was thinking but wondered if anyone had done it with either PP+ or MM. I already paid off my trip for May and purchased my MM for that up coming trip, and would love to include the picture taken exclusively for Disney Visa card holders in with the rest. In addition I must say the sound of shorter lines and more time with characters I have heard other card holders talk about is awesome :)

2) The package is interest free on the card from the time you charge it. So if you charge $1000 today you'd have 6 months from today for that to be interest free.

I have some rebuttal question(s) in rearguards to the answers given by aaarcher86.

When it comes to zero interest for packages from the time you charge the vacation package to the card, do you have to charge the entire vacation at once, or are all payment placed on the card zero percent interest as long as the are payments on a package. Example: Say I order a huge deluxe package with all the trimmings and I know it's more than what I can pay off in 6 months (I like to keep my credit card balances at zero when I can) can I make one huge charge, then a few months down the road make another huge payment charge for the rest of the package?

I found out from the link you posted that it looks like a 10% discount on purchases $50 or more anywhere that is a Disney owned store that takes credit cards.

GOOD TO KNOW, I wondered how that worked, and I am glad they reload a card cause if you didn't spend all your points I like the sound of grouping them together with the next bunch.

ADDITIONAL QUESTION:

Everyone has told me that points do expire, both unredeemed, and then after they are redeemed, but no where can I find the time frame. Can anyone tell me how long I have to redeem points, and then how long those redeemed points are go for once they hit the card?

You don't have to charge it all for the package. It'd be 6 months interest free from the date you charge whatever payments. If you have multiple charges you'll have multiple interest free end dates.

I don't believe the points themselves have an expiration, but the redemption card does. I'm not sure what would happen to points loaded onto a card that's expiring. It's at least a year from when you get the card. It may be two.

Points do expire in fact I just received an email from Chase Disney reminding me that I should redeem mine before they expire so I just ordered my card.

I have been doing some more research and it seems that redeemed points expire when the date printed on the front of the card is reached... Which is terrible if it's a re-loadable card!

IF this is true, and I got this off the FAQ section of the Disney Rewards link ( https://disneyrewards.com/faq/ ) then all of us should be very mindful of our dates on our cards before redeeming points!

But I still have not found anything yet that tells me when non-redeemed points expire.

If there is anyone out there with that million dollar answer I(we, I figure I am not the only one) would love to hear it for sure!!!

I will keep looking, and if I find something new I will let you know.

Thank you everyone :grouphug: for putting your heads together, the lovely legaleaze of these sorts of things can be a royal pain!

In the squirmiest location in the world, burred in a different question I think I found the answer to... When do my non-redeemed points expire?

In the FAQ section of the Disney Rewards site ( https://disneyrewards.com/faq/ ) look under the premier card section, I know we don't all have premier cards, HOWEVER the question read under the section of upgrading to premier card:

"When my Disney Dream Reward Dollars transfer, will they retain their original expiration date?"

The answer was:

"Yes. Disney Dream Reward Dollars will maintain their original expiration date (60 months from the date earned) when transferring to your Disney Premier Visa Card account."

I am making the assumption (and possibly making an *** of myself) while reading through all these things that Disney Dream Rewards Dollars are the "points" we keep talking about? The reason I am making this assumption is many places in the Disney Rewards site talk about transferring Disney Dream Rewards Dollars to Redemption Cards.

So if my speculations/assumptions are correct, the "points" as we have been calling them expire 60 months after you earn them....

:confused3 Can anyone confirm or deny this hypothesis? :confused3

When you get your monthly statement it shows you the dollar amount
Of your rewards and when they expire. The points you earn this year will expire in 2019 during the month you received them this year. When you plan your trip order your rewards card and transfer points. Do not do this before because once you transfer points they will expire on December 31 of the following year as stated on your card. You can reload more points, but again, those points will expire on the date shown on the rewards card.

It is possible to have two reward cards at a time So if a card is about to run out I order an additional card and start loading it. If you order the card late in the year it will not run out until Dec. of the next year, ex. if ordered in Oct.2014 it will not run out until Dec. 2015. When transferring points it will but the oldest points on first. If you are not sure you will use all your points on a Disney trip only take whats needed, then if you need the rest all you need to do is call the rewards number or go by a guess relations center at the park:

You can load the rewards card. Walt Disney World® Resort, located directly inside and outside each Theme Park
Magic Kingdom® Park Guest Relations Window
Magic Kingdom® Park Guest Relations at City Hall
Disney's Hollywood Studios® Guest Relations
Epcot® Guest Relations
Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park Guest Relations
Downtown Disney® at Walt Disney World® Resort Downtown Disney® Marketplace Guest Relations
Downtown Disney® West Side Guest Relations
