I have about 20 Disney VHS tapes that I want to get rid of. Where do you think I'd do the best--sell them as a lot on ebay, or piece meal at a garage sale, or through Craigs List?

I'm really torn on this one!

I tried to sell my Disney VHS's and no bites either place.

I have a large bag in my car and I am taking them to Goodwill. At least there I can get some write off.

I sold mine for $1 each at a garage sale. In a few years you probably won't be able to buy a VCR to play them on.

I was able to sell some to once upon a child last week and then I gave the rest to Goodwell. I think they paid about .50 each for them, so you would have to decide if it is worth the time. I was going there anyway so it was fine with me.

When we sell some of the VHS's that we have upgraded to DVD's I usually get about 2.00 each at a yard sale. A very small rate of return considering I bought most of them new but in a few years I will not be able to get a machine that plays VHS.

We donated alot of VHS tapes to a local hospital earlier this year. Believe it or not, they still use VCRs in the patient rooms, at least on the children's floor. Each child has a VCR (rooms hold 2 children) They were happy to get them, they said they are hard for them to find now. (They had alot of tapes for young kids, like Barney, Pooh, etc. They liked that I had some tapes for older kids, not cartoons-- for the tweens and teens)

My daughter was a patient there a couple of times, so we knew they still used them. This was not at CHoP (they use DVDs) , but a smaller local hospital in NJ. Libraries also sell them at book sales. I am an active Ebay seller, but I saw no market for these, and the shipping charges are more than the tapes are worth. (IMHO)

Good luck!

IF you do the garage sale thing and your looking to get rid of them... I wouldn't pay more than a $1.00 a piece for them. But that's just me!

I sold mine on EBay a couple of weeks ago. Five or six auctions, I had about 50 total. I started them off at $.99 per lot. I broke it out into about 10 per lot. I broke them out by gender, example Girl Heros and included Pocohantas, Mulan, etc. I also did one that would appeal to boys, example Toy Story and TS II, Peter Pan, etc.

I ended up making about $20 after fees, shipping and packaging. I was happy with that amount.

Still have a couple upstairs that didn't sell (Muppets).

We sell our duplicates at our garage sales and make $3.00 each on them. I am happy to get that. Alot of people use them for playrooms so the kids can watch movies on their own and not scratch the DVDs.

You might want to look and see if anyone is looking for VHS tapes on Craigslist. Or even post a sell add. It doesn't cost you a thing to even list them there!

I've tried to sell them at 2 different yard sales now and didn't sell any at the first. At the second, I did sell some. I sold them for $1 each or 6 for $5. No bites on craigslist and I've listed them so many times. The rest are being donated to the VVA on Tuesday when they do their pickup in my area. I just want them out of the house, they are just taking up space! The only three I'm keeping are a copy of Free To Be You and Me and 2 different The Children of Noisy Village tapes.

I've had fairly good luck on ebay as well...I grouped them as lots and would sell 4 together, or something similar, and maybe I'd get $7-10 for them...I didn't make a fortune, by any means, but I believe I would not have made the same amount at a yard sale, given what seems to be the going rate here.

Anne,
You are close to Give Kids the World. The last time I checked they accepted used VHS for the families to borrow to use in their "homes".

Thanks for the info--I'll give them a call. I've actually got multiple copies of some of the movies, so that might be a great option!

I'm like the grave yard for people's old VHS tapes. I buy them only if they are a dollar or less or if its a hard to find movie I'll pay a bit more. A Disney VHS in good shape I might pay 3 tops. Most of my movies though I get for free when people are upgrading to dvd. I have dvds but hate them. Btw people have been claiming they will stop making VCRs for well over ten years, and they are still making them and VHS movies... just like they still make tape players and record players.

I sold a bunch at our garage sale last year. Disney movies in clamshells went for $2 (and sold out very quickly), other kids' movies in clamshells went for $1.
