Hey Guys,

Just curious, is the Disney Vacation Planning DVD updated for 2011 or 2012 or has it been the same for years now?

Thanks!

I have been getting it every year for years (since it was a VHS tape) and they change it slightly every year, mostly to go along with the current "theme" like "What will you celebrate?" or whatever. Plus, there are always sections on the new attractions and resorts. I am thinking for 2012 there will be something about the FL expansion.

One major difference I noticed in the 2011 version is that they got rid of the resort categories section and no longer have those short description videos of each resort when selecting one. Instead they give a brief description of the different categories and that's basically it, so hopefully the 2012 version will be a lot better when it comes how they describe the resorts.

That was my feeling too, they didn't really show or go into any resorts like they used to. It was a big dissapointment.

I agree, 2011 dvd stinks. It' pretty dull. we like to watch the dvd to get excited about our upcoming trip and the older one is better for sure.

Thanks for the info, all!

Just curious, does anyone know if previous versions are up online somewhere? If 2011 isn't a good year, it'd be great to see some other years with more information. I assume most of the basic facts would still be relevant as long as it's not too old.

A lot of the old promo videos are available on YouTube. I love that I can still get nostalgic about "remembering the magic" and "celebrating the future hand in hand" even though I no longer own a VHS player (despite the fifty VHS tapes laying around the house). The 1999 video was the first one I ever saw, and the music gets me every time. This channel is my favorite.

I'm just going to chime in and say I agree that 2011 had the worst vacation planning DVD out of all the ones I've seen. In past years, the videos have been appropriate for all guests, but 2011's was really geared toward the nuclear family demographic. The scripted parts were so uninspired, and it felt way too much like a sales pitch for parents of young children. I hope they return to the sentiment that Disney is for everyone!

We got the 2011 one and on my son's 4th birthday (a month before our trip) to get excited and I kept having the "wow, this is dull" thought going through my head. I didn't have anything to compare it to, but it was pretty bad.

I got the 2012 DVD in the mail today even though I don't recall requesting one. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet but I'll post my thoughts when I do. My girls still dust off the '09 version when they want to check out a resort because the newer versions have just gone downhill since then, so I don't have real high expectations.

ETA: Out of curiosity I just popped it in and it is lame, just a rehashing of the 2011 version with a little new content regarding the 2012 developments (AoA, royal rooms at POR, etc). Guess I'll be holding on to that '09 DVD just a little longer.

i ordered what i thought was the new one but got in the mail today the 2011 one again. boo :headache:
