Disney Vacation Club Travel Show?

I'm wondering why they wouldn't choose a location more central to the state? Please don't flame me here, nothing wrong with Rochester, to me it just seems to limit attendance because of the distant for the rest of the state, Long Island, Jersey, CT, etc.

I'm sure there is something in their demographics database that influenced their decision.

In terms of being central, Syracuse or Utica would be for the state (yes I know NYCers don't think so, but from a logistics stand point it really is CENTRAL NY).

I betting they didn't pick Rochester, they picked the museum. People will see it as more friendly being a trip to a museum for kids that happens to be giving a timeshare presentation than a timeshare presentation in some convention center or hotel.

I've lived in or visited most of the major cities from Buffalo to Albany and Rochester would get my pick for something like this without hesitation every time.

I just got my invitation and signed up. I am thrilled because any chance to be near "the magic" is a great day for me. I had never heard of the travel show before, so I don't know what to expect, and from reading through the thread, it seems like a lot of people are in the same boat. I would love to hear a little about what it is. I am not a DVC member but my dream is to buy in. We have toured twice, but DH does not see it as a good investment. I need to do some research before we go and try to convince him otherwise, so if anyone has any tips, please let me know.

Well, maybe that means that we can hope to see it somewhere downstate like the Long Island Children's Museum?

Anyway, to all of you who are going to the Rochester event, enjoy and let us know all about it!

I am signed up on the 15th at 4pm but it is a 6 hour drive for our family. Can someone post the incentives that they are offering if you attend on Thursday? I am a member and looking to do an add-on but want to know if it is worth my while to make the trip to Rochester.

Thanks,
Jerry(jjgraff30)

We have not decided if we are going. Might to just check out museum. Only a little over an hour away.

Rochester has been used as a retail test city in the past.

Most of Upstate is a test market (Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany). We tend to get things no one else ever hears about. One great example is Crystal Pepsi. It was marketed in a handful of cities, then with a text book failure, rolled out to the US and died a quick death. Most people have never heard of it though.

We did NOT receive an invitation but were able to register just the same. I just got my confirmation for Friday, Nov. 14 @ 7pm. We'll be driving to Disney that day and will just happen to be in the neighborhood. :cheer2:

Definitly if you are able, then go. Free Admision to the museum itself is worth the visit. We love it and we live in MS. We visit relatives in Rochester each year and try to visit the museum whenever possible.

I just registered for Sat, Nov 15 @ 7:00PM, the 4:00 was full:sad1:

Anyone have any ideas of what time they will let us into the museum?

We decided to go. Have not registered yet, threw away the card but DVC just sent me an email today with a link to sign up.

As a member of the Strong Museum, I just received this e-mail from them.

Walt Disney World Entertainers Perform at Strong
The Dapper Dans of Main Street, USA, part of the original Walt Disney Entertainment legacy; and the Village Beatniks, a drumming group from Disney’s Animal Kingdom will present a weekend of musical performances at Strong on Saturday & Sunday, November 15 & 16, during regular museum hours.

The Dapper Dans of Main Street, USA have delighted generations of Walt Disney World guests with their unique blend of Barbershop harmonies, tap dancing, and vaudevillian comedy. The Village Beatniks are a five-person percussion ensemble featured daily at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Orlando. The group celebrates the mythical and magical stories of Discovery Island and invites guests to play along.

Catch concerts by both musical groups throughout each day, and enjoy story readings and a magical craft activity. Plus each child will receive a surprise gift while supplies last!

We are signed up for 7pm on Saturday, looking forward to it as Rochester is only about 2 hrs from our house :) Also looking forward to going to the museum, we have never been there before. Even though it is a "timeshare presentation" it is a Disney timeshare presentation and i'm already a member thinking about an add-on so that's a non-issue. Thanks for posting the additional issue about the musical acts. I am looking forward to this :) Anything to get a little closer to the magic!

Did anyone hear anything about the additional incentives that will be offered at this show?

With the developer points on BLT add-ons and a potential additional incentive this may be the time for an add-on??

I wish there was one closer, I'd love to attend (and maybe do a little add on at AKV????;) )

I work at Strong Museum and can answer your question, from what I've been told. Disney went all over the country to find the perfect venue for this event. When they came to the museum they thought it was the perfect size and thought our staff were as friendly and energetic as their cast members. They're taking over our activity rooms in the back of the museum and making them Disney style clubhouses. I also heard they are donating some Disney items to the museum.

Welcome to the DIS dramadrew! And thank for the info about the event. I LOVE the Strong Museum (as does the rest of our family). I'm soooo excited Disney decided to have the event there. It's a great place for it. My girls, DD7 pooh: and DD10 princess:, are both very excited to have two of their favorite things combined into one event. We're registered for the event, and maybe we'll see you there.
