Disney Unwrapped- After the show

I had it penciled in on my calendar to watch, forgot and my husband happened to be flipping through. What luck???? Me and my girls enjoyed it thoroughly. Flametree was great when we went in December 2002. We had the ribs and chicken sandwich both are great. Chef Mickey's was also great. Sci Fi and Prime time looked wonderful. I have heard so many things about these two but seeing it on TV makes it a must.

Boy that show was inspiring wasn't it? It really got us fired up for our upcoming trip and really got dh excited too - he kept asking me questions about stuff they were showing. He has always scoffed at the turkey leg treat but was saying now he wanted one! He also wanted to go the the Prime Time and Sci Fi too. I thought that was so funny as I am always trying to get him involved in planning and finally he seems interested in trying some new things!

About the wedding stuff - my local newspaper had a big story about weddings at WDW two weeks ago - man talk about a fairly tale wedding - average price is about $225,000! It makes me glad this Disney family has a son and not a daughter! LOL!!!

Tinks,

Lisa and I both have blondish hair and yes we were on in the beginning of the show. We were both wearing blue shirts....mine is sleeveless.

My husband was more interested in the computer than the TV when Unwrapped was on, but the wedding cake segment stopped him dead in his tracks while walking past the TV. Those cakes were AMAZING!

I loved this show but boy was it a teaser:) :) :) :)
It makes you almost say forget about the rides and shows I am going there to eat.
Food Network has some really fun shows. Like Unwrapped and Follow that Food.

Can someone answer a question for me?

They showed a segment where kids can decorate their own cookies and make their own desserts - where is that?

I thought it said it was at the Contemporary, but none of the menus for the Contemporary list anything like that. (at least from what I could find)

Oh, this show made me sad. We just got back on Saturday when I saw this on Sunday. Made me want to turn right back around and get on the plane.

For everyone considering Chef Mickey's - it is a lot of fun, especially if you have kids. My nephew got a kick out of the napkin dance and danced with Chip (or Dale, can't remember). The food is good if you like breakfast, although I have been there twice now and don't remember seeing any Mickey-shaped pancakes, just the Mickey waffles.

Hi Tamie

I saw kids decorating their own cookies at Askershus... I think they may have the dessert decorating at lots of the WDW restaurants, but they may change frequently so they don't always include it in the menu. You may have to call ahead of time or ask. I would also check out the show again and see if you can catch the name of the resort they mentioned ( i missed that part of the show!)

Any chance one of the individual cakes is available as a dessert somewhere?

The Grand Floridian's bakery bakes all WDW wedding cakes. If you call them, I know they can make smaller cakes for you to commemorate a special occasion (like a wedding anniversary), or no occasion at all. :)

Boy did your newspaper get that wrong! Disney weddings come in 2 varieties, intimate and custom. Intimate weddings (for very small guest lists, I believe it's 8 people including bride and groom) are packages that include a honeymoon--I believe they are around $5,000, but I'm not positive. Custom weddings have a minimum expenditure of $7,500 for a weekday wedding, and $10,000 for a weekend wedding. From what I understand, Disney does very few "blowout" weddings that cost a fortune. I am a member of a Yahoo group (the Disneymooners) of Disney brides, and I would say that most spend about $15,000-$25,000 on average.

Great show! My Mom always wondered why my DH and I made such a big deal about the great food at WDW - now that she watched the show with us, she knows why! She just kept saying "Oh my God, that looks delicious! Oooh, we have to try that!" I'll have her hooked yet! ;) She'll be travelling to WDW for the first time when she and Dad come with us this November...

Like many of you others, I got the same question from my DH: "Why didn't we eat at the Flame Tree? Those ribs look awesome!" I guess we'll be there this year...;)

I know the Concourse Steakhouse has the cookies. My 2 YO DS had them there last month and couldn't quit talking about painting them.

Did anyone notice the sweater AND undershirt the host was wearing. Florida was blazing at the time this episode of Unwrapped was being filmed. Whatshisname must be an ascetic.

Artist Point at the Wilderness Lodge had them at dinner. Great for keeping kids at the table while adults chat.

Hard Rock Cafe has them too.

I've been jonesing to go to CG for a long time. DW kind of balked when we made the PS for our trip next month. Now that she's seen the show she can't wait to go. Me either!

She was always grossed out by the turkey legs, too. We'll be trying them next trip to MK. So much good eating...so little time.

Great! My thoughts:

1) boy, some of that kid's food at Chef Mickey's was revolting-looking-- the peanut butter and marshmellow pizza? Retch! I'm a little pregnant though, so...

2) Turkey legs, however-- they still look a little gross, but the hype has me sold. I'll try one next time

3) Never been interested in Prime Time Diner, but the segment there was great-- mostly I just thought the decor was cool! Still don't know if I want the cutsey waitstaff, but I might go just to check out the fifties knickknacks.

4) California Grill. I. Want. To. Be. There. Now.

Overall, a great special, and a good overview of WDW food, from the simple (Mickey premium bars) to the sublime.

We watched it last night as well. We weren't going to go to a character breakfast, but after last night we decided too.

2 weeks to go and I was actually lucky enough to get a PS at Chef Mickey's for 6 people during our stay!!!

Thank you everyone for posting that this show was going to be on :)

My dd wanted to go where ever they had the mac-n-cheese tasting thing going on. She considers herself a mac-n-cheese expert and wants to know if they made the correct choice.;)
