I was wondering what I should look for when searching for undercover security. I told my friend we'd make a game out of it. I hear that they wear phanny packs?? Anything else I should look for?

have fun...
'cuz you'll spot a thousand undercover security guards by that description...

p.s. I heard they wear mickey mouse shirts, too

Great idea!

They are VERY easy to spot.

They often wear shorts or other casual clothing.

Sometimes a belt-bag.

Sometimes have a camera.

They almost always have a hat of some kind.

When you notice someone dressed like that, just give them a little wink.
If they look at you a bit strangely, then you'll know you've found one.

In the old days undercover security was very easy to spot. They usually still had on their shiny black security shoes, and were trying "almost too hard" to fit in as a tourist.

Now in the post 9-11 world, they have done a much better job of fitting in.

I have had some pointed out to me and I would have never guessed that they worked for Disney.

I've never spotted one.

I would assume that they are either folks wandering around solo, or with anamatronic kids in the strollers (the kids heads have surveilence cameras in them, of course).

I have seen more armed, uniformed security guards in the parks in teh past two years than ever before. One guy I saw on Main Street this month was carrying a 9mm on his right hip and a big taser gun on his left.

Whoa, you actually saw the gun?! That's pretty creepy. Do the undercover guys havr their camera hanging from their neck? And also, are they always wearing some type of Disney related shirt?

THOSE are "Cop-tourists".

With the low cop-pay in some cities, the uniform is all they can afford to wear.

Cops gotta go on vacation too, SHEESH!

I heard that they walk around dressed up as large inconspicuous animals.

The best security guard there looks like a large rat in a tuxedo!

I would bet the armed security you saw was the county police. I did see a lot more of their cars this last trip than I had before. I'd bet money that WDW security is not armed.
I used to have a security detail of plain-clothes officers, and the ones that I have spotted at WDW were way better than the ones I knew. I saw two young-middle age women one time working. They had merchandise bags, and looked for all the world (no pun intended) like two ladies on vacation. Very very good 'costume.' Never would have picked them out hadn't if it happened they weren't on a job at the time.

Not sure if this post was supposed to be humorous or not, but I worked as uniformed security at a large amusement park in the midwest one summer. One day a guy came up to me a reported something. I went and checked it out and called in some assistance and the person was ejected from the park. I noticed the guy who initially reported this incident to me was hanging around in the background while all this was going on. When everything was over, he came over to me and complimented me on how things went down. I had no idea he was an undercover officer and I didn't find out until months later that he was. Nothing in the way he told me what he saw or what he told me after led me to believe this.

Many parks hire undercover officers to monitor employees and guests. They just blend in like other park guests. The presence of uniformed officers is always reassuring, but knowing that undercover officers are there to gives me piece of mind.

Now I'm thinking maybe this is why so many people approach me when I'm traveling solo and ask me questions like I work there-"How do you get....?""Where's the nearest rest room or....?" I always thought it was odd, since I dress so casually (but no stroller or phanny pack). I never even knew there were undercover security at Disney. This is news to me!

A few years ago we rode with one on the monorail. Just looked like your average young man tourist. Sneaks, cargo shorts, bright sport shirt untucked, and (gasp) longer hair and sunglasses. But, after leaving the CR, he suddenly pulled a mic out of his shirt and said he'd be at the GF in a few minutes via monorail. Then I noticed the little wire coming out of his shirt collar and into his hair. He also asked where at the GF the other person was and said to "hold him there until I arrive and call the sheriff substation to meet us". Then he rode in silence looking like your average tourist until he got off at the GF. ::MickeyMo

I've also seen armed and uniformed Orange County Deputies in the World Showcase at Epcot after dark a few times.

On my resent trip I found no cops under my covers, and that made me feel very secure. I did however find an 10 inch rat in a tux. On several mornings I also found a nude woman under my cover. :Pinkbounc  :Pinkbounc  :rolleyes1 I kept the woman but gave the rat to my daughter. :rotfl2:

Hahaha, that's ummm.......interesting. Lol, I sure hope your daughter liked the huge rat :rotfl2: . Anywayz, I have seen people at the park that I suspected, but now I have some things to look for when I go in January. Thanks Disers.

If you really want to find them just keep getting Mickey POPs and walking away with out paying :rotfl2:

Why is security a game to you? What do you gain by making it harder for the undercover security officers to do their jobs? (and yes, by pointing them out, it makes it harder for them to do their jobs, because they lose the "undercover" aspect)
