When I was 7 my day took us to disney and I remember him saying it was for under $1000. Now it was the early 90's, we stayed at a comfort inn right near WDW. We did one day at each of the three parks at that time, Universal Studios, Typhoon lagoon, and I remember some extra days going to the beach and an extra day at Magic Kindom. We flew down and had a rental car. Is this possible today? Or at least close? Can someone tell me how to go Jan. 7-14, 2006. From Buffalo, NY. Two adults only, and we want to only do the 4 Disney Parks and possibly one day to the beach, whatevers closest, Daytona? Okay, the challenge has been set, GO!

Just checked the Southwest website and you can get to Orlando on Jan 7 and back on the 14th for just under $400 for 2 adults. If you sign up for the ding fares, you can probably get that down a little, but you might need to book soon and take the reduction in the form of SW credit if you find a better fare later.

Mousesavers has plenty of info on Magic Your Way packages that look pretty good. A quick look says $1000 for everything is probably unrealistic, but $1500 might just about do it. You might want to even look into the MYW dining plan to save on food when you get there. If you skip the beach this trip (or just rent a car for 24 hrs from the rental company at the Dolphin), and stay at a Value on-site you can use the free Magical Express to get you to and from WDW, thus saving big $ on a car rental.

Good luck - I think you can do pretty well if you work at it. ::MinnieMo

Just wanted to add that if you are arriving on the 7th, that is Marathon weekend, the 1/2 & family fun run will be on Sat the 7th, the full marathon on Sun the 8th. If you only have 1 day in each park you might want to avoid Epcot those days, it may be busier! :)

This is for a family of 4
But it's also interesting to note that in her July, 2005 update of that article, Mary implies that it would be very difficult to duplicate the same results due to changes in a number of factors since the original "experiment" in Jan. 2004 (ie the ticket structure change, the lack of room-only codes and the unavailability of meal vouchers) .

To get it in under $1000, you would have to find very cheap transportation. The room and tickets will cost two adults somewhere in the neighborhood of $600, and that's a very CHEAP room ($39/night plus tax, for a total of $220), offsite and 4-day MYW Base Tickets (expiry) from a well-known ticketbroker (approx. $380 for 2 adults). Note that if you go any cheaper with the hotel, you may not get any of the other ammenities like free shuttle service or a complimentary breakfast buffet. You're going to need both to make the budget work.

A rental car would be cost-prohibative, as would the parking fee ($9/day, according to allearsnet.com). A hotel with a free shuttle to the parks is a must and it should be accessible via public transportation from the airport check out GoLynx.com for bus fares, routes and schedules. Airfare should be either free (using FF miles) or very cheap ($39 one way or less, a total of $100 for 2 RT with taxes and fees).

Food might consist of the free breakfast buffet at the budget hotel and a number of items brought from home. The big meal of the day (eaten at the parks) would ideally be a shared, counterservice combo meal with an additional entrée added if appetites are not satisfied. Dinner might be Cup O'Soup and crackers (brought from home) or instant oatmeal, both of which can be prepared using an in-room coffeemaker or a hotpot brought along for just that purpose. Budgeting $20 per person per day for food is very low but it can be done if you really sacrifice and bring food with you. That would add another $200 to the budget.

This would bring your total to about $900, allowing each person $50 in souvenirs and misc. expenses. As you can see, it would make for a bare-bones trip but it can be done. The key would be to researching your airfare and hotel extensively. Good luck! Let us know if you're able to do it. I would love to read the trip report!

O.K. how does this sound? Go with Southwest for the airfare, just under $400.00 for 2. Use the reputable ticket broker mentioned above for tickets @$380.00. Now I am telling my secret. We have stayed here four times in the past year. Go to onetravel.com select hotel, Orlando, dates Jan.7-14. After the results come up look to the left on the page and sort by price. The first to come up will be Quality Inn Maingate West at $28.00 per night. Better yet when you select it it shows an even lower rate of $27.00 per night. This includes a decent continental breakfast and shuttle to the parks. We always drive from Alabama so I don't know how good the shuttle
service is. The motel is clean and within walking distance of Eckerd and
many restuarants. Of course, this does not include spending money, but I don't think I can get it any lower. Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!!!
Also, I forgot the transportation from the airport to hotel.

Ok.... How about Skyauction for the condo 1 bed (full kitchen)for about 210. total...Some I have stayed in that are nice Vav. villas at Parkway, Orange LLakes, Silver lakes, Cypress Point are all nice with all the extras.
You can get a very small car on hotwire or priceline for about 125...
If you subscribe to mousesavers ticketmania has a great deal on tickets with the free ship no tax option. (disney looks the same but tax is extra at disney)400ish for 7 days for both. As for air get a great deal or drive.. Lots of us do if you have a car you can save the rental money and use it for the gas!!! If you do this add 65 more for gas.Total at 800ish...

But you still need grocerys that you can bring with( I would begin now with non parishables like and extra box of snacks or poptarts or pancake mix or case of water in the grocerys to put up for the trip and so-on) or buy some meals at wal-mart and have food in condo some meals(big bkfast is cheap in condo). You can easly share a combo at lunch. Then you to eat out 1 nice meal a day..Entree or buffet only.... Then snacks and drinks back at the condo!!!200.00 shoud do food if you follow this.....
You may not have many souv but you can do it....

I would try to start a Change jar for extra meals.. Maby ask for money for x-mass gifts? People are allways wanting to give a nice couple a cheap night out as a gift. Maby you can come up with more cash than you think. Remember that your grocery budget for that week can be spent at wdw with no-one at home!!!

I wouldn't attempt to try a $1K budget for my family, but I do know of a family who spent about that that on a trip a couple of years ago. They have 2 kids but at the time the youngest flew free and did not need park tickets. They flew and rented a car. They Pricelined a 2-star hotel for 7 nights, which I think came out to around $35 per night with taxes/fees. They took 2 timeshare presentations while there which gave them some free park tickets and cash (that they used to purchase their son's tickets). I think they may have spent only 2 or 3 days in the parks though and spent alot of the other days doing freebie activities or visited other local attractions. They did have a fridge/micro in the room (which isn't always guaranteed with using Priceline) so they saved on meals by eating in some. I don't have the exact breakdown of their expenses, but I believe she estimated $1K or maybe just over or even under.

I second the idea of renting a condo. People have done really well with skyauction. You will have much more control over your food budget with the full kitchen.

I almost shudder to suggest it, but how do you feel about driving? Buffulo to Orlando in January doesn't sound like much fun :scared1: , I know, but you would save a bunch. You could get an inexpensive hotel somewhere along the way through Priceline and even with gas and tolls it shouldn't be much more than $300. Then you'll be able to pack kitchen staples and some food plus you'll have the car while you're there.

Driving $300
Skyaution $210
Tickets $380
Food $110
Total $1000 :teeth:

Of course, that means no eating out, no souvenirs, etc. :guilty:
