Does anyone have any updates on the progress Disney is making to add a competing product to Uber?

Haven't heard any further word.

If they ban Uber, I will adjust my plans to not needing a Uber like service.

The description of the car sounds like the car that the Disney Instagram page posted, that is also being called the Minnie Van, but that car was a Honda.

Rumor was that they would be showcasing electric or hybrid vehicles. I guess Chevy made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

I don't think they will ban Uber/Lyft. That would hurt Disney more than it would help.

They're just trying to offer another incentive to stay onsite and developing another profit center. I'm sure they've researched this a good bit, but I don't see the viability of an in-house service that doesn't go off property. They're essentially providing a paid service that does the same things their free buses already provide.

I'm not fluent in FL anything but I remember reading something about a new law clearing the way for MCO pickups because ride share companies can't be banned anymore? So now is it even possible for Disney to ban these companies?

I can get mostly from one place to another inside the World on Uber for less than $9. IMO if the Minnie Van is not "close" in price to Uber, why would anyone use this Disney service?

There is a new Florida law that basically took rideshare regulation away from local authorities and set statewide standards. One aspect of that was opening up a lot of places -- MCO is one, Key West is another.

However, WDW is private property, so I assume Disney would have the right to exclude Uber or FedEx or anyone else they wanted to keep out. The governmental body (Reedy Creek Improvement District) could not, but I assume Disney itself could keep anyone out of their parks and resorts.

OTOH...how would that look? I'm paying all this money to stay at your resort, and all that money for your park tickets...and now you won't let me Uber so you can charge twice the price? I don't think that would go down very easily

People who have never used uber because they don't live an area with it or never have tried it while traveling may be more inclined to use a Disney based service because they would feel safer. I'm speaking from experience as I've suggested to my husband that we could use uber at Disney and he is very reluctant. We come from a rural area and just don't have experience using uber or taxis or anything like that. And perhaps he watches too much criminal minds.:confused3

Also, people may be unfamiliar with the usual price of uber and can afford a $20 ride so they'll take it.

With a fleet made entirely of the Traverse, That means a family of 6-7 can fit (depends of they have the middle seat of middle row). This is sometimes harder with Uber/Lyft (so I've read, never used it myself).

Also, if they have booster seats easily available, then that would be a huge ++++++ over Uber/lyft, resulting in so many more families able to use Disney's service that are somewhat shut out of Uber/lyft.

After reading around these boards, my answer is plenty of people would. People are loaded on here and $20 to them is more like $0.05 to us, if that.
