So we have a trip planned for 8/5/16-8/13/16.
We absolutely have to go these dates as we are going with friends and this is the only time they can get off. We have been once beginning of November and it was wonderful but now with these dates Im kind of nervious. The heat isnt a worry to me as im from TX (currently live in NY) my bigger worry is the crowd im not a brilliant planner so im kind of iff on what to do we have 4 day base tickets and we also are thinking of typhoon lagoon and hopfully a beach day in between. We have 4 adult a 7,8,2,3 yr olds. We will not be doing DDP. So please any tips, advice ect is well appriciated. Also exactly how horrible are crowds going to be and strategies to make the most of it?

Well, first of all, make sure both you and your friends don't underestimate the heat. Drink lots of water (some people will also freeze towels the night before and bring them with them), so you don't get dehydrated, wear loose clothes, and you might consider bringing some deodorant. Trips to the pool and water parks will certainly be helpful. Especially because you're used to the heat, you should be fine though.

In terms of crowds, you'll be catching the tail end of the peak summer months, so while it will still be crowded, it will be less crowded than it would've been in July or June. Personally, I travel every year to WDW during the summer (Fourth of July in particular) and have never found the crowds to be unmanageable (like they are during NYE week, during which I've also traveled). Fourth of July is a bit crazy, but outside of that, they're not bad, especially once you head into August. Don't underestimate the crowds though; many are surprised by how crowded the parks are getting these days. The good news is that your trip falls early enough in the summertime that you should still be able to take advantage of later park hours (MK open till 11pm or midnight, etc...), which is one of my favorite parts of traveling during the summer.

Because you have younger kids, your best strategy will probably be rope drop. Show up 40 minutes or so prior to posted park opening and go around the parks until you get kind of tired (probably right after lunch!) then you can head back to your resort for the hottest part of the day to nap or rest by the pool and come back in the late afternoon/early evening to grab dinner in the park, see the nighttime spectaculars, and ride some more rides. This way you take advantage of lower crowds and the cooler times of the day (Florida summer "cool" is high 70s btw). you can swing it, you might consider opting for a 5-Day theme park ticket so you can visit MK twice (if you purchase through a site like OfficialTicketCenter.com, the 5th day is free and often cheaper than buying through WDW).

Another potential strategy would be to sleep in, show up later in the day (like 2pm), use your FP+ options then, and stay through park close to take advantage of lower waits. This works better for groups with teens and is not as ideal during the summer, but whatever you choose, you're going to have a great time. If you can swing it, you might consider opting for a 5-Day theme park ticket so you can visit MK twice (if you purchase through a site like OfficialTicketCenter.com, the 5th day is free or a minimal cost), no matter which strategy you go with.

In terms of a beach day, I'm not sure if you had one in mind, but the closest one to WDW is Cocoa Beach near Cape Canaveral. Don't get me wrong, Cocoa is very nice, but if you have a little extra time, you might consider heading west to Clearwater Beach, which is absolutely gorgeous and the water will be rather warm and gentle (it's the Gulf of Mexico after all) that time of year. Also, check out the Beach Shanty Cafe. It serves an awesome breakfast near the beach and it's very, very inexpensive. Otherwise, check out Clear Sky near the beach for dinner. Another awesome restaurant.

Personally, I find summer to be my favorite time to visit WDW, so I think you're in for an awesome trip!

Thank you! Im not sure if we will be able to do the 5th day or not but I will definitely discuss it but if not we were thinking of maybe skipping DHS since its a smaller park and I know some attractions may or maynot be under construction during my trip and instead doing 2 days at MK since it is bigger and Ill probably get more of what the little ones like to do in MK than DHS what do you think or is it a ridiculous idea?

My family is going during the same week as you. My kids are in the similar age as yours, 8 & 4. We got the waterparks & more open. We plan only 1/2 day for DHS (because I want to see F!). Full day in AK, 1.5 days in MK and 1/2 day in Epcot. Visiting Typhoon Lagoon and BlizzardBeach here and there. We have never been to WDW during the summer so I don't know how much crowd there will be. But my goal is just to ride SOME rides not ALL the rides so I don't have to stress about not having enough time to do everything. We will take afternoon nap, eat well, and play in the pool.

If I got the water park and more options would I be able to go from say epcot to BB or would I need park hopper also

I stopped going in summer about 8 years ago mostly because I no longer had to go when school was out (week between Christmas and New Years was insane). It will be hot but like was said not as crowded as June or July as some schools go back the middle of August. Water fans help cool off and don't forget the sun screen or sun hats for the little ones especially. Buildings are air conditioned so take breaks inside if you need to. It will rain once every day, a downpour for about half hour, many times late afternoon. That's a great time for a late lunch or snack inside. A day at your resort is good too if you have time, hanging out at the pool, and if staying on property, some resorts having movies at night outside. We used to love to do Splash Mountain or Kali River Rapids as it cooled us off (walking around wet helped).

With little ones it makes it a little more difficult, but if staying on property, you an always go back to the hotel for breaks during the hottest part of the day for naps, or pool for the older ones. Cocoa Beach is about an hours drive and we usually went for a day. Clearwater is about 2/12. I have never been as I hadn't wanted to take that much time driving and wanted more time at the beach.

Have a great time and stay cool.

Yes! We are staying on property and kind of hoping to be there when opening happens and leave around lunch time go have lunch somewhere then going to the pool for an hr then maybe an hr or so nap and then back to the park around 5 or do you think its too late to come back at that point?

I suppose it really depends on your family and the other group you're traveling with, but I've always really enjoyed DHS. A day there this summer will be worth it just for the new Star Wars nighttime spectacular alone. Even if you don't have any SW fans in your group, this show looks like it's going to be amazing (the current SW fireworks there are already arguably the best in WDW). I also really enjoy Fantasmic. Plus, if anyone is your group is interested in thrill rides at all, DHS is where you'll find some of the best in WDW. If none are, there's still enough to do with TSM!, GMR, Star Tours, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, VotLM, and the BatB show. Your little ones might enjoy the Disney Junior show and its corresponding character breakfast or lunch. Plus, a dinner at Sci-Fi or 50's is a must in my opinion. That said, it's your choice. Maybe you sleep in and arrive at DHS around 1 or 2 or so and stay through park close. Given the length of your vacation, I think a trip to DHS would be worth it (especially if the day is free), but I might say otherwise if your trip was shorter.

You would not need a PH to do this. You can use your WPF&M entitlements whenever you want within 14 days of your ticket's first use. That said, unless you plan on visiting multiple water parks, it's cheaper to get a one-day water park ticket than to buy the add-on. Should you choose to, I always recommend waiting until you arrive at WDW to add it on in the summer because you never know what the weather will look like in the summer, and when you're there, you may only find one day on your trip that is nice enough to warrant a water park.

Also, side note, you mentioned you're staying at a Disney Resort. I don't know what your transportation plans are, but I'd recommend only renting a car for the day you're planning on going to the beach (to correct a PP, the drive to CB usually only takes 2 hours, which in my opinion is worth the nicer experience). You can rent through Alamo and they'll pick you up at your Disney hotel and bring you to their rental center on property.

With the water park option, you can go to water park and one of the major 4 theme parks on the same day. Park hopper only applies to MK Epcot DHS and AK

Thank you all sooo much I may keep 3 day base tickets and make 1 day a park hopper ticket that way I could do MK 2 day Epcot 1 day AK 1/2 and DHS 1/2 and ill see once there if we do a WP or not does that seem like a good idea maybe?

We've been at very busy times but have always managed the crowds just fine. We have found the best strategy is to hit the parks early, go back to the resort for naps/swimming after 1pm, and then head back to the parks at night as others have mentioned. I know you aren't too worried about the heat but it really is uncomfortable- I'm from south Louisiana and live in south Texas now but the Florida humidity is killer. And, just be prepared for the rain- in my experience, it rains like every afternoon during summers in FL. Other than that, enjoy! It's Disney so I'm sure you'll have a magical trip at any time of the year!

As for dining- We don't do DDP either, it just doesn't work for my family but we do buy giftcards before our trips (kind of a forced savings) and use those to pay for our food and souvenirs. Sometimes sams sells packs of GCs for a few bucks off which is a tiny bit of a saving.

if using strollers for younger ones make sure you have rain covers and use them when leaving strollers in parking areas. expect storms for part of each day of your trip besides the heat
