Disney Travel or DU?

I can't say enough good things about the service we received from DU *last* year for our 7-day Western Magic cruise.

This year, I wrote to our previous TA at DU asking how to transfer this year's reservation (which we made onboard last year) over to DU, and received a "form email" letter back saying that she was no longer at DU and that I would receive a reply from a current DU representative soon.

No such reply was ever forthcoming, and we hit the "balance due date". Although we could have attempted a second contact with DU, given what I have read on this list recently and my own experience, we have decided to stick with Disney. I hope our unfortunate DU experience this year was just a blip in the DU radarscreen: it would be a real shame to see an organization which used to provide such first-class service sully their reputation with poor response.

Hmmmm...I e-mailed DU about how to transfer an onboard reservation to them, and got a response in about 2 hours!

I have used both - I prefer DU -

1 - Was able to get onboard credit
2- Was able to geat a discount on the cost of the cruise
3 - If I had any questions, DU responded in a very reasonable amount of time and answered all my questions
4- Received a stateroom gift from DU -

Extremely happy with DU

We used to book directly with Disney because I pretty much know more about WDW and DCL than any of our local travel agents. We switched to DU for the stateroom credits and because they watch for the price to go down...and it's nice it know we're booking with fellow Disney fanatics.

Well I booked with DCL this morning...for a May cruise. Should I transfer it over to DU or just watch for Fl resident rates myself?

The price from DCL and DU for the same stateroom category on the same cruise with the same options (insurance, air) quoted at the same time would be the same -- but DU usually offers stateroom credits and/or rebates. This mean the the effective price from DU will be lower.

Other discount travel agencies may quote the discounted price differently -- but, just like DU, they also start with DCL's price and then provide a discount by reducing their commission.

There are two big reasons to use DU instead of another discount travel agency:
-- They really know DCL.
-- They sponsor this board.
