Disney traditions

It's going to be a whole new meaning for me as I get to enjoy it through the experience of our son. I'm going to come across so many things I've never looked at.

I'm so excited and can't wait to incorporate all your ideas :)

I know what you mean. I had been to DL dozens of times as an adult so bringing my (then) 5 yo son was a whole new adventure. I had to slow the pace; drop a bunch of rides I wanted to do and experience it all through his eyes.
it was amazing. This time he's 8 and tall enough so we can ride everything. So this trip gets to be a bunch of firsts too.

Have an amazing time!

I always try to ride Tower of Terror first, it doesn't always happen but it makes me happy when it does as it was my first WDW ride back in 1997.

Our kids always get new Disney jamies and slippers (no bare feet on those floors lol) for the hotel room. I buy them before and pack them for a surprise but now that this isn't their first rodeo they expect them and very much love them!

Minnie & Friends our very first morning in Disneyland. We aim for the time slot before park opens because walking down an empty main street is just so cool!

Build a bear and Rain Forest Cafe the first day we arrive and then spend the night walking down DTD to get excited.

We always pick out new ears and ornaments for the xmas tree every trip

Family pictures in front of the Castle and once we enter main gate are a must.

Pictures are the best. Our favorite spot is the teacup. I can't believe how fast they grow.

We also love to get a popcorn bucket every visit. My boys love picking out which bucket to get especially at seasonal times. We then display them on top of our kitchen cupboards. Houseguests think there are so cute!

We do autograph books and "Tinkerbell gifts" every morning at the resort....basically collect little disney treasures before the trip at the dollar stores and target dollar section and give them each morning...I've done little stuffed animals from JC Penney, little coloring kits, mini puzzles, bubbles, glow sticks, etc....have a wonderful trip with your little one!!

I've always gone to the parks as a child-less adult with friends that were also child-less. I haven't been to the parks in four years and this year my Husband and I will be going with our two year old (insert emotional mama emoji) and was wondering if anyone has done specific things for their kids the first time that they've carried out each time they visit.

We'll be there in October (coming from Oregon) and was hoping to come up with some sort of idea that as he grows he can see what we've always done over the years of visiting. Pins? Or is there something you give your kids prior to your trip as a kick off?

Thanks in advance!
We do a couple of things..

1.) We get a family silhouette made at the Silhouette Shop on Main Street. We've done this since before DD was born, and it's an even better souvenir now as they show how DD is growing on our visits :)

2.) We do get 1 pin/person that represents something memorable/special from that trip. Last year we got DD a Jack Skellington pin (that's also a snowflake) b/c HMH was one of her favorite attractions.

3.) Our "autograph book" is a storybook. Since we visited during the holidays last year, and will again this year, we brought this Christmas Storybook Collection book with us. Characters that had a story in the book signed the title pages (which also had pictures), while characters that didn't have a story in the book signed the empty pages at the front or back of the book. Since we're going at the holidays again this year, we will bring the book again. IF we haven't gotten a character from a story already, they'll still sign their title page. Any other characters will sign the front/back, but we'll use a different color sharpie this year so we can tell what autographs came from which year.

I love the storybook because it's something we will read and see more often than we would look at just a regular autograph book. There's a whole bunch of different Disney Storybook Collection books, so if you're visiting at a non-holiday time of year, then those are options. The storybook is also something that DD could easily keep as she gets older and pass down to her kids if she wishes too.

I just recently read about "the Little Man of Disneyland" and read it with my son. I know from the blog where it is but don't plan on telling my son. He is extremely excited to look for his house on our trip this year. I wish I had know about it on our first trip. I bought the book on eBay for $5.

We gave my daughter this book on her birthday trip to DL a few weeks ago and she and her cousin had a great time searching for the house!

Besides the mandatory photos of the gang in the same place each trip and at any new attractions, we started a tasty tradition years ago that continues today. On our first day there, we order a custom-decorated, large Mickey Krispie Treat, bring it back to the room for another mandatory photo with the gang, and then pick at it for the rest of the trip. OK, OK, despite its size, in practice it rarely lasts more than a couple days. Yum!

Not that we have been very many times; however, here are some of the things we do when we go.... (3rd trip coming up in 2 weeks!)

We always have gotten Dinner at Carnation Cafe on Main the first night in the park, something about being on main st and being fully immersed in the Disney vibes from night one....

Dole Whips and Tiki Room......speaks for itself on a hot day if you time it right.

The past 2 trips we hit DCA for MM and rode RSR 1st thing and then got breakfast @ Flo's.....this trip the timing is different but that was always a good way to start out a trip.

We always get the kids some new clothes and jammies that are Disney before we go......we did the welcome gift baskets for our kids our first trip and it was adorable and well worth the money.....

We all got a Cpt. America shirt for this trip and might try to wear them on the same day and go meet Cap' - our 3 year old son loves him, I am team Iron Man myself ;)

I love this idea!! Thanks for sharing! And, like you said... they can keep them and pass them down to their kids as well! I am going to purchase storybooks for our next trip for my daughters! :)

You're welcome! It was fun, and the characters really seemed to enjoy it too :) I suggest putting it inside a ziploc when you're in the park, that way liquids won't be able to damage it. Also, test out the sharpies before you go to see how long they take to dry. It didn't seem to be a problem for us, but always good to test :)

I did order the book that was recommended- Little Man of Disneyland so maybe I'll use that for the autographs.

I truly cannot contain my excitement for this trip and you all have helped up that excitement to a whole new level. Thank you all for sharing what you do with your families :)

Every trip, we took pictures of our daughters on the (now closed) staircase in New Orleans Square. Change isn't always for the better.
Not the same as The Court of Angels, but in the Pieces of Eight store, there's a secluded courtyard as well. Not as charming, but it's something.
