Disney to start charging for non resort guests in- park transportation?

My two cents - we all know how massive the resorts are. Not everyone comes by way of MCO but, even if it’s 20%, that’s a huge amount of added cars adding to the already ridiculous traffic problems. I hope they get a better system in place.

Hidden in their statement about the magical express was the idea that Disney will start charging non-guests for using in park transportation. It says that complimentary on site transportation will still be available FOR RESORT GUESTS.

I've answered many questions on the Transportation board here over the years, and "resort guests" has always been a phrase used for on-site transportation. Anyone visiting a Disney resort is considered a guest.

The numver of things I have here isn't intended to be obnoxious, but just to show where I'm coming from.

I only recently found out how to, sort of, use the "wayback machine" but this is the wording about on-site transportation from, I think, last December:

Special Travel Options for Resort Guests

Save time and money—and the hassle of driving and parking—with these fun transportation options.
Guests at select Disney Resort hotels can travel to and from all 4 theme parks and more—by bus, boat or monorail—wherever your imagination leads you!

Maybe-possibly this is the page from August 25, 2018: https://web.archive.org/web/2018082....go.com/guest-services/resort-transportation/ Again, "resort guests" is mentioned everywhere for on-site transportation. That's just what they call people visiting the property.

And currently...https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/resort-transportation/ Again, "resort guests."

Here's the typical wording to differentiate guest from guest LOL: "If you are a Guest staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you receive complimentary standard parking at Disney theme park "...

This page differentiates between registered guests and day guests for parking at hotels. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/parking/

We said the same thing about stranding people with no escape from the Disney bubble but here we are.

Well, to be a 2nd grader..."they started it!" First they built parking lots. Then aloowed rental cars to park there. And taxis. And ride shares. Then they hooked up with Minnie Vans! It's been a bit of a natural progression to allow people to "escape" LOL.

Although I rarely used DME, I'm very sad about the loss, and I believe with a smidgen of hope that this is their typical over-statement like the ELP "glowing away forever" except "we'll bring the light parade back and have it be slightly different or call it something slightly different for years and years but it won't be exactly the same so we didn't lie back then" thing.

Disney want you at the resorts shopping

Do they? Yes resort guests but they have tons of options. If they cared then they wouldn't limit off-site guests from parking without a dinner reservation.

Offsite guest don’t have magic bands that can charge money to.

Except they are redoing the Disney gift card site next week to combine with your DME login.

I suspect ability to charge from your phone or magic band will be coming by next year to off-site guests.

It will be your requirement to set it up.

Now will they charge doubtful but you never know.

It depends on how Disney defines “resort guest.”. To my understanding, it does not state overnight anywhere and the theme parks are considered part of the resort, so if you purchased a ticket to any Disney theme park, then you are considered a resort guests on the admission date printed on your ticket.

Given that this thread hasn't been touched in almost 2 years, I'm going to guess it's not going to happen.
