Disney to sell their DVC unit?

I'm surprised at all the responses here acting like a small conversion of an aging VGF building shows commitment. The building had to be renovated anyway, and this is a small project, maybe 2Mish points. The Reflections site is now permitless and resod, and VGF is is the only new thing in 4+ years. To me, it shows no DVC expansion for the foreseeable future.

This is the salient point: there is no investment being made by DIS in the future of DVC.

I think it’s fine to post about touring plans-they get lots of mention on this site and he’s been a guest on the podcast before-they have a blog and a forum and I would guess he’s posting there.

Umm, I just listened and it really is pure speculation by three investment firms, this doesn't even indicate that Disney is exploring the idea, just that these three firms were curious what it would entail.

To be fair, this is a direction that many timeshare developers have been moving for a long time now. Hilton's newest property is a conversion of one of the hotel towers in Waikoloa, though some of those rooms are being combined into larger units similar to CCV. Wyndham has been taking over failed condo developments and folding them into the timeshare inventory incrementally for years.

I know that there won’t be smoke if there isn’t at least a small fire.

So is it the general understanding that Disney is either trying to sell or floating the idea of selling off DVC to a 3rd party?

Having actually listened to the words said, I don't think Disney is involved in this at all, I think there were some third party investment companies that were speculating on what would happen if they did. I don't see Disney selling off DVC, now I could see them outsourcing the management of DVC instead of running it themselves and in fact that may prove to be more efficient and cheaper, who knows?

Without trying to sound snarky or facetious, there is no general understanding about anything. Every reference goes back to the same podcast and one other comment by the same parties to the podcast. There's been zero confirmation or references from any other independent sources (credible or otherwise).

What? Do you mean because it’s studio only?

Not only that, but that they are hotel rooms with just the beverage cooler and coffee maker. No kitchenette.

IMO, I think it is going to be the future because with the price per point to buy so high, the number of points needed to book those larger units is so much more money.

I'm afraid to be dinged by Moderators for violating a rule. If you read thru these pages I think his name shows up & then google is always your friend. Sorry.

All you need to do is post a link. If it shows up with *****, then it can’t be discussed or give hints.

If the link works, you are good to go!

If that were the case then I wouldn’t be worried or at least not as much as if DVC was sold.

A management company could introduce new fees etc. No member would be happy about a booking fee or similar, but for now it’s just speculation.

The podcast itself is a reliable source, well-connected and often correct. Even without confirmation, a rumor from this source is worth discussing. Plenty of others agree, which is why we're here on page 16.

If they did sell it then the value of DVC would be like all other timeshares $0 there are no winners in that, except for Disney which will receive a one time hand out when they sell.

First of all, my comment, which you quoted, made no mention of the credibility, or lack thereof, of the original podcast, so let's just dismiss that strawman and move on. Second, plenty of others may agree that the single source is enough, but an equal or greater number feel it is not, and their healthy skepticism is borne by the absence of any corroborating sources. A week after the initial podcast and not a SINGLE other media or Disney source or any other blogger, podcaster, YouTuber or anyone else has made any comment or allusion to the subject. None. Disney is thinking of selling DVC, and no one else (in particular ANY of the forum sponsors, whose very livelihood depends on the ebbs and flows of DVC) has weighed in? Really? That's click bait and view count gold. Lastly, no one said it couldn't or shouldn't be discussed,. but the discussion needs to occur with the understanding that there has been zero heard about it before, or since the single podcast.

THAT'S why we're on page 16.
