Disney to cancel FPs if room is cancelled

Disney has shown logic at times where they eliminate FP+ when it's not needed: a case in point would be Anna & Elsa M&G at Epcot. However, I personally believe there is NO way that SWGE attractions will be without FP+.

Exactly. If you’re waiting in a mega-line, you won’t be spending MEGA-bucks on SW souvies and SW character dining. There’s a balance that has to be met between time spent in line and time for spending money.

FP+ *greatly* increases the standby wait. The ratios are 10:1 FP:SB. Without FP+, I doubt you'd ever see waits for FOP over 60 minutes. But yeah, perhaps SW:GE isn't comparable.

I don't think the split stay thing is a temporary glitch. I confirmed exactly what you are seeing using my account. That said, my hope is that it was unintended and Disney will correct it (which might take a lot of us complaining)....

Not saying I think it is a good idea or not or if they would or wouldn't ever do that ... just saying why there could be some logic and that doens't mean everyone would be 6 hours because the standby would be lower without FP, is all

If they are trying to stop getting an advantage with leading reservations, wouldn't making split stays book fp separately be the way? If so, this really sucks for those of us who do split stays for whatever reasons.

Is this going to affect anyone that already had FP scheduled before the changes today with an onsite room only reservation? I have a 7 night stay booked in April, have already done my FP at 60+ days, but we may now need to go to 2 or 3 days onsite, instead of 7 (because of financial circumstances that have just risen). I'm hoping I won't lose all my FP, since I will still have an onsite stay, and FP's were all booked before this change took place.

DVC won’t care. When I release the room, someone else will book it. If no one books it thru DVC, it will go to “breakage” and then CRO can either sell it or AKL can use it for a 1-night “magical upgrade” for some lucky non-DVC guest.

However, I will let Member Servces know how I feel this will affect a lot of DVC members. As a group, we tend to do a lot of split stays due to availability issues.

I spoke with MyDisneyExperience help and they specifically said that split stays are now considered discontinuous and you will need to book the fastpasses for each stay at the 60 day mark for each one individually. They said it was how the system was always intended to function and should be similar to ADRs.

However, I then called and asked Member Services at DVC and they told me DVC split stays would still be treated as continuous reservation despite these new changes. They said specifically it would be differently than the cash side.

I told both that I thought back to back resort stays should be treated as continuous for both fastpass and ADRs.

Agreed - this has far-reaching unintended consequences that will upset some of their highest paying customers! We just found the magic of the split stay last year and I've been telling everybody I could how awesome it is to see/try 2 Disney resorts in one trip AND make all your transportation simpler!

Agreed - this has far-reaching unintended consequences that will upset some of their highest paying customers! We just found the magic of the split stay last year and I've been telling everybody I could how awesome it is to see/try 2 Disney resorts in one trip AND make all your transportation simpler!

Another thing, setting up my November split stay in about a month and half. So I'll be pleasantly surprised or sad come September.

Maybe the solution would be no FP+ for SWGE rides until it calms down?

This is why I'm leaning toward believing that at least in the beginning, access into SWGE may be a hard ticketed pass. No need to offer FP at the onset if you can't even get into the land without a pass. Easy way to control the crowds.

If you cancel the onsite portion over 30 days out, my guess is you'd lose any that weren't length of stay. Under 30, I'd hope you get to keep them as anyone can book 30 days out.

I wouldn't be so sure, based on what they told @crvetter It sounds like if you booked FPs using a window opened by a reservation, it won't matter when you cancel, you'll lose the FPs.

I can't fathom why any of this is a good idea! Is Disney's new preferred split stay that you head to Universal for the last 4 days
