Disney to cancel FPs if room is cancelled

So I am curious now if Disney has made any official announcement on this or if they are going to? Since today was "the day" I Googled it and every article out there seems to be based on the very first one and nothing official. Which I find amusing, as it seems no one wanted to be the one who didnt have "the scoop". So many "results" with the same exact not really verified info. I guess at least it is literally a first world problem kind of thing. I just find it all amusing at this point.

My fast passes are still good. Only two days worth for the first week in April, but they are there.

Or maybe they didn't want their readers to be "surprised". Many park goers count on the FP's.

FOP fast pass is most likely not available at 60 days out, it is at 65 days out.
I can vouch... my 60-day window for a 3-night trip in April opened today. At 7am on the dot, FoP is gone for all but my 4th day, which is the day I'm leaving, so useless to me, and SDD is gone for every day of my trip. The 60-day window isn't a benefit for those of us with short trips, so I rarely pay the upcharge to stay onsite. (I'm only doing so this time for reasons that have nothing to do with onsite benefits.) I'll be very interested to see if anything opens up for me at 30 days...

This will definitely be interesting to see how it plays out. If there's a grace period and cancellations have been made, the effects might be seen toward the end of this week. Or it could only apply to new reservations made starting today. OR Disney IT could biff this one again LOL.

Right, with short trips it can be hard to get FOP and SDD. You need a 64 day plus advantage.

... which, long term, has turned us off a bit when it comes to visiting WDW. We've cut back a LOT over the past year+ and nowadays just go do whatever 3 FPs we managed to get, and get out. Less time in parks = less spending money in them. My family is just one of tens of thousands on any given day, though, and probably pretty far outside the majority.

Right, I totally see that. I have a feeling with the direction that they are taking, our trips to the actual parks are going to be less and less as well.

The advanced planning is getting to be too much. T-11 months, book the DVC reservation. T-180 days, make ADRs. T-60 days secure FPs. Park tickets that have to have a starting date declared on the day you purchase them.

Very little room for flexibility or last-minute changes.

One of these days, I’m just going to find killer airfares, book whatever DVC has available, eat wherever it suits me at the moment and not where I thought we would want to be 6 months beforehand, and go to whatever park the next bus takes me to. Now THAT sounds like a real vacation to me!

Thats how all my vacations are planned. The only thing I plan is my hotel and my flight. Last week I was in Orlando and decided last minute to go to Magic Kingdom. I like Disney but don't like having to plan what I am doing every single minute. I am surprised so many people seem to like it that way.

That’s very doable still. Last year I went 12 times, only two of them were planned more than a week out. One of which was only a matter of hours from booking to getting on the plane. I watch for JetBlue sales and when airfare is $100 or less round trip we sometimes just go, even if it’s just a day or two. It’s way more relaxing and we have no issues getting food or fastpasses or hotel rooms.

This is truly a tragic story. Hope it works out ok for you. Have a magical day.

You know...now that you say that, I completely never thought about west coast off-site folks...that is really unfortunate!! That truly is their experience - not sure how much different availability is at 7am vs noon at 30 days though (seems like the difference between “sucky” and “VERY sucky”)

I don't know about 30 days, but I've never had any problems at 60 days doing them mid morning. I've never got up at 6am to do my FP's and never had any problems. Although for this next trip in December with SWGE open I might get up early just to be on the safe side.

All the planning helps Disney know about how to staff the parks. It helps their bottom line in the end. They want to staff just the bare amount of cast members needed.
