Disney tickets that expire question

my DH was at an auction last night....there were 4 1-day hoppper passes - it said that they were donated by Disney. well he bought them & turned them over - they each expire in july, 2007.

my SIL recently bought 2-day hopper passes from a ticket broker/agency & they expire some time this year.

i know that you can pay extra on multi-day passes to not have them expire as i have recently done this. i'm also pretty sure that if you buy tickets w/out paying for the no-expiration option that they will expire 14 days after initial use - right?

what i didn't know is that tickets, both single & multi-day passes, are sold with expiration dates on the back? are these tickets just sold through ticket brokers? if i was to buy tickets online through disney now w/out paying for the no expiration option would they expire if not used before a certain date?

thanks for any info. - Jenny

If you were to buy expiring passes from anyone...Disney, a broker, whatever...they won't expire until they are first used. So, if you were to buy a 2 day park pass, but without the non-expiration added to it, it will expire 14 days after you use it, not after you buy it. Same thing with a one day pass...once you enter the park, it is done. But, if you buy a one day park pass today, you can hold onto it for as long as you like without it expiring...at least as far as I know. If I'm incorrect I'm sure someone will chime in. :tink:

goofy4tink, i agree w/ everything that you said...that's the way i understood it. i'll look at these passes that my DH got last night...he insists that on the back of the ticket that it reads "expires 7/1/07" - does Disney sell tickets that expire maybe to certain brokers or for specific reasons?

Disney does have some specialty tickets that have expiration dates. Generally these are used for Youth Groups and/or Convention tickets, but they do occasionally pop up elsewhere.

Tickets that have an expiration date on the back expire on that day. Magic Your Way tickets, unless you have No Exp option, expire 14 days from the first use.

OK, so if i go through Disney or AAA (through traditional means), i shouldn't encounter tickets that have an expiration date printed on the back. that's what i thought. these tickets that my DH & SIL encountered must have been specialty tickets - i was nervous about them but at least i now know that disney does issue them & that i'll just have to use them by a certain date.

Specialty tickets have another drawback, they usually cannot be upgraded to have more days at the cheaper per day rate for long Magic Your Way passes.

Their value is therefore very small if used on medium to long vacations where you also need to begin using a Magic Your Way pass. For example if you are going to Disney for six days and you have a one day specialty ticket or raincheck ticket, then a five day expiring MYW pass for the rest of the vacation costs only three dollars less.

This would encourage guests to spend no more than three days at Disney (specialty tickets are worth over $60. per day then) and the rest of the time at Sea World, Universal, Ripley's Believe It, etc.

No, both Disney's and AAA's tickets may only expire 14 days after the first use unless you get no expy. Disney and AAA will only direct sell Magic Your Way tickets - it's just that AAA's have a slight discount.

They won't have a seemingly random expiration date such as "June 2, 2007" or something like that. You create the exp date when you use it - making it valid for 14 days unless you buy no expiration option.
