We are planning to go to Disney in Jan 2011 or 2012. I was wondering how often/much ticket prices go up to see if I should get them now or wait. Is there any time of the year when they usually go up?

Also, is $230/adult $198/kid for 5 day non-hoppers about as good a price as I'll find through ticket brokers or should I hold out for a Mousesavers code?

TIA! :goodvibes

If you are sure you will go, you might as well start getting them now. They don't expire until you use them the first day. They usually go up about $10 a ticket or so per year. Depending on family size that could be significant, if it is two years worth of increases. Plus, you can buy one at a time. About the best price you can get is through the link on mousesavers to undercover tourist. Not many others exist or are insignificant. I think they usually go up in August.

I agree. This is how we buy our tickets. I buy 10 day non-expiry tickets as soon as I can afford them (although you could certainly buy the expiry ones, we just get 2-3 trips out of the 10 day tickets). I know we'll always go again and the prices go up every year (in fact, one year prices went up three times in one year). Although be aware that if you ever want to do a package through Disney in the future (free dining or any other promotion for that matter [other than room only discounts, etc.]) you will have to buy at least a one day pass for everyone in your party to participate in any packages.

In recent years, prices have gone up in August. If you are positive you will use the tickets then I would start buying them now.

The current deal through Undercover Tourist via Mousesaver link is $232 for an adult 7day (nonhopper) which includes tax.

Thanks! 7 days is even better, wouldn't make me regret not splurging for the hoppers (we don't 'hop' that much since hours are a little shorter in Jan.) Hey, saving $10/ticket for 5 people gives more spending money!

So, the link from Mousesavers is as good a price as those get? I haven't looked at the Newsletters for ticket prices in a while since we'd been using up some non-expire tickets, so I wasn't sure if they had extra codes in the there sometimes or not.

Wow, I would have never have thought to buy tickets now for a trip in the future. :confused3

If you have the money and are sure you will go, it's always best to buy now.

Those tickets will only go up in price, so if you can get them now while they are cheaper.

We bought the tickets we will use this summer back in 2008.

Well I have to offer you a warning on this.

I've done this not once but twice to avoid the price increase, and both times got bit in the rear. The first time, after I purchased the tickets, they had the offer of buy a package, get free park hopping and water parks. That would have saved me considerably more than what I saved avoiding the price increase.

And the last time, after I purchased our tickets, they offered free dining with the purchase of a package. Now I could have purchased a one day ticket to get this added, but not being sure when I'd get to use it next (if ever, since DH isn't a Disney fan like me), the price of those one-day tickets being way more than what I'd saved buying our tickets in advance, it still meant that I'd have ultimately saved more waiting to buy my tickets.

They did say that deals were going to dry up, but I will bet you dollars to donuts they aren't going away, just getting less intriguing. The free park hopper deal was during a good economic period, so unless you're going during a major peak period, before you buy tickets in advance to save money, I would do some historical research on package deals to see if you're risking missing out on even better deals.

I was just going to post the same thing. I'm not a fan of buying tickets in advance because of deals that could come up in the future that require the purchase of tickets to be able to take advantage of them. I also don't like tieing up that much cash.

I suppose you could if you wanted. For a trip that far away you might want to look at the potential savings vs potential interest earned. Go back and look at the price increases for last few years to see if it's worth the savings. You could put the cash in a CD for a year maybe if you are concerned that you will spend it before the trip. At least with a CD you could get to the money if you really needed to, with tickets the money will not be accessible.

Our next trip is Thanksgiving 2010 and I will be looking in July to see if there will be increases in August and comparing the same things myself, but that's about as far in advance as I generally consider. DVC so not concerned with package deals. Now I will be buying 10 day
non exp hopper w/water to use for subsequent trips, I'm thinking I can get at least 2 maybe 3 out of it and that is a big savings over buying 5 days at a time. By my math at today's prices its around $122 per adult ticket saved. If my math looks off feel free to correct it.
