Disney Thrill Rides: How thrilling are they?

I'm getting ready for our upcoming trip and I'm not sure what new rides to try. I'm not the biggest fan of roller coasters, and the only "thrill rides" I've gone on at Disney are BTMRR and Kali River Rapids. I rode Splash Mountain once when I was 6 but I honestly can't remember if I loved it or hated it.

At the moment I'm considering the following rides: Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Star Tours, Mission Space (no spinning ), and Tower of Terror. ToT is probably the iffiest one, but the others make me uncertain as well. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to share an opinion on the rides from the perspective of someone who is not a big thrill seeker, mostly how they compare to the rides I have done. Any input is appreciated because I am excited to try some new things but at the same time I'm not entirely sure how I will react. Thanks in advance.

Splash mountain is OK. In a scale from 1-10 it's probably a 5 or 6. Space mountain isn't had as bad as most people seem to think. It's ok too. Star tours can hardly be called a thrill ride. It doesn't toss you around a lot. Mission space is amazing. I love it. It has a great kind of thrill. It's just so great. The tower of terror, well for me, it terrifies me. I don't get on it very much anymore. Its soo scary. He drops are just crazy. Hope this helps!!

I would place Space Mountain and Mission Space (Non-Spin Green) in the same category as Big Thunder, in terms of level of thrill. However, Space is in the dark which may or may not up the thrill for some people. I think Tower of Terror, Rock-n-Roller Coaster and Expedition Everest are in a higher class of thrill, maybe even two or three notches up from the BTMRR class of rides. I really really like the Tower of Terror even though it has a very high adrenaline rush for me. It is one of those that I hop on, scream my head off, and then laugh at the end and get back in line for another dose. I don't think any of the rides at Disney, exception being Expedition Everest, have a high scare factor when it comes to people that are afraid of heights. Most are so well themed or dark that you can't tell how high you are. ToT is so quick that you can't tell how high you really are and going through the story on the way to the drop distracts from the fact that you are climbing. I agree with previous post that Star Tours isn't much of a thrill, probably a 2 or 3 out of 10---since it is just a simulator, you can always close your eyes and tell yourself that the unit is just tipped backwards, etc....you really aren't off the ground, etc.

Splash Mountain is not intense until the big drop. It does not bother me but it does some people. The drop is very quick. My friend despises the drop but enjoys the rest of the ride so much that it's his favorite ride. Space Mountain was closed when I went to Magic Kingdom I would not find Star Tours scary at all. You may get a little motion sickness. I have rode Tower of Terror only at Disneyland but they are very similar. The visuals are a similar to the darker parts of the Haunted Mansion. The dropping part is really pronounceable. I don't find drops scary but many people do. The height really is not bad because it feels like you don't good down far because it's so fast and most time you don't see the outside. I wanted to ride it again but my friend and their moms did not. This is an amazing ride and I would suggest riding it once or at least seeing the que. I love this ride! If you do not want spinning go on the Green team. Yes, people have died on this ride but it was only when they did not follow the rules and used the orange time. I would find mission space can just be a tad overwhelming. You could most likely handle it but my sister got confused and starting crying. But after she said she loved it and wanted to ride it again, LOL. Also if you do not like close spaces this is not a good space. On this ride they give a lot of safety warnings and make it sound scary but it really is not. You may want to watch videos on Youtube to remove suspense and see if it's the right fit for you. Thanks for the replies. I think I can handle Splash and Space Mountain. I've been planning on doing Star Tours regardless but I wasn't entirely sure how bad of a ride it is. Mission Space is the same, although I'm still opting out of the orange team. ToT....who knows, maybe I'll be in the mood to give it a shot when I'm there.

My name is Carissa (im 15 yrs of age) and I have been to Disney 8 times (about to be my 9th on August 9th). I am not a big rollercoaster fan either, but I found that Disney rides are the best. This may sound kind of unusual, but Disney has expanded my horizon over the years with tolerance on coasters. Splash mountain isn't scary and very kid friendly. Space Mountain was one of the newest rides I have been on ( June of 2011). It does go in the dark, but not upside down (that was a plus because i really don't like upside down rides). If you are debating whether you want to ride Big Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain is a indoor, dark version of that.
Rockin' Rollercoaster lights up inside, but goes upside down and is mostly dark. In my opinion, if you are good at trying rides, this one will be good for you. The 1st 5 seconds on that ride are the scariest. I have been on Rockin' Rollercoaster a few times. I was really scared the first time I rode it.
Tower of Terror has been a ride I wasn't sure about either. I have a bad feeling about it. I dont like fast drops, but I am trying to decide whether I am going on it on our next trip or not. Unfortunatly I cant tell you if you should or shouldnt.

I have never been and my DH isn't a fan of rides. So we have been watching YouTube videos of each ride to help him decide which ones he is willing to try.

Different people have different opinions on Tower of Terror- my six year old brother loves it and I absolutely hate it. (I love the ride- just not the droppy bit lol!)

Can you cope with rides with big drops? If not then I would not try ToT.

Hi there! I am in the same boat as you on terms of thrills. I have a horrible fear of heights so no Tower of Terror for me, but all the others I have done and LOVED! And believe me...I NEVER ride thrill rides, so you will be fine. Mission Space: Green Team and Star Tours are NOTHING I do not care for Splash but only because of the heights thing, so it is totally up to you. Have a DISNEY-tastic trip!

I love roller coasters that go upside down and the faster the better! BUT, I don't like long straight drops. That plus the fact that I always get wet (I hate that!) on Splash Mountain, means I skip that one. I also skip ToT. I went once years ago and will never, ever go again. On the other hand, my 8-year-old daughter and almost-4 niece could ride it over and over. It's more of a fear of falling thing for me

Rateing from 0-10 Splash Mt. 9 1/2, Space Mt. 10, Star tours idk I haven't been on it yet but in 3 weeks and 3 more days I'll let u know but I hear its good, Mission: Space green side 8 -9 orange side 9-10, Tower of Terror BIG FAT 0!!!!!!!!!! I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WILL NEVER GO ON IT EVER AGAIN and that's my answer

The most thrilling rides at WDW are easily Mission Space at EPCOT, Tower of Terror and Rockin Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios, and Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom. The three "mountain" rides at the magic kingdom are good rides, but theres no big drops or loops. just a lot of fast turns

I have the same problem with roller coasters and I've basically been on every ride at Disney. On your list, the only ones I can't say anything on are Mission: SPACE and Star Tours. Mission: Space because of what I've heard but then I heard it isn't too bad, but if you get sick I would go on the Green side not the Orange side since I've heard there is no spinning on that side. Star Tours I haven't been on because we've bypassed it since I've wanted to do other things and it's just a simulator so not as bad as most on your list. Splash I found to be the next easiest on your list especially with the newly added bars unless drops really get you (though it's not as bad as you think trust me) or getting wet. I would start by sitting at one of the middle seats if you are that nervous. Space Mountain was my first roller coaster ever (I was 13 almost 14, I am now 16), take that as is, but it is dark (you can't see the track) and a bit bumpy for some. Tower of Terror is a bit in the same category as Space. The ride is dark especially when you go into the drop shaft. It is also unpredictable because it has the system that allows for a different ride every time, but just sit in the way back since it isn't as intense back there then at the front. Also, just disputing any belief you may have: Yes, you do lift up out of your seat, but you have a seat belt and two little handles to grab.

Thanks. I figure if I can do BTM Space Mountain would be the next best step up. I'm a bit on the fence about Rockin' Rollercoaster because I have never done a coaster with inversions, yet I feel this would be the best ride to try them compared to coasters at other parks.

I've watched videos on YouTube and overall they have really helped to give me a good understanding of how the ride looks as well as how long some of the bad parts last. I figure in my head that I can't extract how bad a ride is from watching a video, but that I need to suck it up and do it to find out.

Thanks for the tip. I'm glad to hear that the simulators are not as bad as I had thought because I've been pretty hyped about the new Star Tours.

I agree, I love speed on rides but I'm not always a big fan of the "empty stomach" feeling that comes with the drops.

EE is actually the only ride that I haven't brought up yet. I would love to ride it just for the experience, but I think I need to work up to that before I try to tackle it head on. Maybe next trip...
