Disney theming cannot be beat!!!!

I was just looking around online for a beach resort on the west coast of FL. Ugh!!! Even some of the nicer properties ***** were like... okay. Most had lots of extra charges...like $18 a day valet parking. Theming is unheard of and pool slides are rare. Even Disney's moderate resorts seem to offer more in the way of amenities, activities, and ambience (so important in a vacation).

It definitely seems these days that the best resort theming is either at wdw or las vegas. These places no how to carry you to another world and make your vacation something special. Even staying at a moderate I get more lost in the theming and the atmosphere than I do at a more expensive resort that is 'just' a hotel.

That is very true. I can only think of two nice non-WDW beach resorts. But they all cost alot of money. In case you were wondering they are the Fountainbleau Hilton in Miami, and the Don Cesar Beach resort in Tampaa

I think Atlantis in the bahamas has nice theming as well. Of course Vegas has some awesome themed hotels...

I love the theming!

Some good points. Disney does do a very good job. And the best thing is there are so many different choices. So if you dont like one theme you have so many other choices.

As someone else has said, if you are looking on the west coast of Florida and have a few dollars to spend, the Don Cesar Beach resort is a wonderful place. However, its not in Tampa. Its on St Pete beach.

My thoughts exactly! Every time we tell someone we are taking another trip to WDW, they say, "It's way too expensive! You could go to Mexico for less than that!" ---which brings me back to the above statement - Disney has the best theming anywhere! I figure you get what you pay for, and I've never stayed anywhere else that had the quality for the money + the "magic." Sure, it's expensive, but for what you get for your money at a Disney resort, Disney is the best there is!

I used to think it was expensive, however; after using a code for a stay last week I paid $25 LESS a night for the POFQ at Disney than I am going to pay per night in an average Days Inn Hotel in Buffalo NY!!!! And that was with a 'special' rate through hotels.com!!!! Give me Disney's 'expensive' hotel any day!!

The Fountainbleau is falling apart. When was the last time you were there? It is disgusting...

Disney, of course, is my favorite, but another hotel that is super nice is the Opryland Hotel in Nashville. Now that's a resort that takes you into another world. But one night there does me good whereas a week at Disney isn't enough!

I agree that Disney theming can't be beat. We go to a lot of "theme" parks. Been to Cedar point, Busch Williamsburg, Kings Dominion, Paramount Canada's Wonderland in the last year and most of these do an adequate job of theming. Disney does not theme, it immerses you in atmoshere (24/7 if you stay onsite!). Imagineers are the key to the Disney theming, and what keeps our family coming back for more.

Well, if you're willing to stay on the east coast of Florida instead of the west you could try to stay at Disney's Vero Beach resort.

Otherwise, take a look at the Pink Shell Resort down in Fort Myers. We stayed there last month and it was really nice. I think we stayed in the Sanibel view section which is newer than some of the other buildings. You can also take a nice drive thru Sanibel and Captiva and have lunch at the Bubble Room . There's also a nice dinner train out there and a cool place called The Shell Factory which does a neat "Liquid Fireworks" show.

It's been about 7 or 8 years
