Disney-themed party foods

Hello all! Hope I'm posting this in the right forum ...

My son will turn one on July 9. We're taking him to DL a week later, and I'd like his birthday party to reflect a DL theme, if possible. I've given up on finding decorations that are DL (or even WDW) specific, but if possible, I'd like the foods we serve to carry out the theme. So far my only idea (other than a Mickey Mouse cake, which I'll buy at a local bakery) is to serve Mickey Rice Krispie treats dipped in chocolate, the way they're sold in the parks.

Can anyone suggest any other ideas for Disney-related foods to serve? I would really appreciate any input!

I think that sounds like total fun!

It wouldn't really be so hard to decorate with the DL/WDW theme. You could just use the theme of each of the "lands" in the MK or DL, like Adventureland would have a tropical/Polynesian type theme, Liberty Square a patriotic theme, Frontierland with the Wild West theme, and Tomorrowland with a space theme. You could use bits and pieces of all of that and I think it would be so cute! Another thought is something from each land or something each character would like to eat. There's so many different ways you could go with this, and it shouldn't be too expensive with a look-around at your local Dollar stores.

Let us know what you decide. I love to hear about all the different birthday theme ideas!

Umm, lets see..... You can make chocolate castle lolli pops! you can buy the mold from E-bay. They even have castle candy molds if you don't want to make lolli pops. i bought Cinderella coach lolli pop molds from here, (but of course that would be too princessy, but I'm sure the castle molds would be fine for a little boy.

Also, You can get those molds at craft stores that have the disney characters on them and you put pretzle stick in them. I have some that are tigger and winnie the pooh. I'm not sure what they are called, but the finish product looks like tigger (or pooh) hangin onto a pretzle rod. Very cute!

Also, you can get those Disney fruit snacks. I know they come in packages such as "Mickey and pals" "Princesses" and "Lion King"- I don't like the lion king ones because there is just something unappealing about eating a gummy green bug...lol

If you have the Mickey cookie cutter (which I am assuming you are using to mold the rice crispy treats.) You can make mickey cookies too.

Boy these kids are going to be hyped up on this sugar!!!!

How about Hot dogs from Casey's Corner? Hmm, thats about as much as I can think of for real food.

O wait,,,, this might take a little more time to prepare, but how about having Pizzas for the kids. You can prepare the dough ahead of time, and shape it like a mickey head. Then when the kids come they can have fun decorating it.
You wouldn't have to do 1 pizza for each child, you could have several medium or large sizes, depending on how many kids you have attend.
Hmm, I might have to try this one.
Actually, you could have one large pizza for the head, and two small ones for the ears. Am I confuzing you yet????

Nicole, if you have a superwalmart in the area check that out. I have found some great Disney (Mickey) things there lately. They had Mickey and Minnie sugar cookies in the bakery department (only 2.50 a dozen) and they had Mickey Mouse cheese (cut out in his shape) in the dairy department as well as Mickey Birthday celebration Ice Cream which is made by Blue Bunny. I've also heard that Old Mission taco shells have a special edition of shells out that have edible Disney stickers that can be applied....if you could find them, you could make cute little roll up sandwiches.

Have fun! We were going to do the same type of thing for my DS 5th birthday, but then we just decided to take the party there! We leave in 7 days!!!!

I forgot about those Mickey and Minnie cookies! I bought some of those from the Super Wal Mart in Clermont while we were at WDW a couple of weeks ago. They really are cute, and they taste great too! I'd say they're easily on par with something you'd find on sale at the parks, but much cheaper at $2.50 a dozen.

If you do have the Mickey cookie cutter, you could make Mickey sandwiches too. I'm thinking about the red one that I bought last summer. It's pretty big, and about the size for a sandwich.

I have a Mickey Mouse head shaped cookie cutter that I purchased at Michael's. It came in a cookie decorating kit on the cake supply aisle. I use it to cut sandwiches, cheese, pancakes, etc... My kids love it!

Thanks to all of you - these are all awesome ideas! I'll go to Wal-Mart this weekend to check on the cookies and the cheese, and yes, I do have the Mickey cookie cutter, so I can use it for sandwiches as well as the rice krispie treats.

Eeyore74, thanks for the link to the cookbook ...I just ordered it! I checked out the table of contents and it seems to have tons of cute things!
