Other than movies, what can I bring along for a 5-6 hour car ride to occupy an almost 5 yr old? Disney-themed ideas would be great!

FWIW, she doesn't know that she's going to DL and it's 14 days away!

One initial thought is to buy a Disney Magic Pen / Invisible Ink book(s). They are great for her age and the great thing is if she drops the pen in the car or on her clothes -- no mess or stain! They are published by a company called Lee Publications and you can order direct from them or you can try a 3rd party site (amazon or such).

Also -- consider buying a CD soundtrack of her favorite Disney movie(s) (if you have a car CD player and if she likes music). My girls love to listen to the Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Princess & the Frog soundtracks.

When I was a kid we would always play a disneyland themed version of 20 questions. We simply called it the disneyland game. Some one would think of something in disneyland (IE the yeti in the matterhorn) and we would all take turns asking questions untill someone got the answer! Typical game would go like this....

Is it in Disneyland? (since they have added california and DTD)
yes
Is it a ride?
no
Is it something in a ride?
yes
Its it a character in a ride?
yes
is this ride in NOS?
yes
is this ride Pirates?
yes
Is it captain jack!?!
YES!

Haha, its fun. You'll be surprised how much time you can burn doing this. And you can add your own rules at you hearts delight. One of ours is that the GCH is apart of DTD. So that clears up some confusion that you can get from the line of quetioning. And you can't use the bathrooms as you secret!

can you tell me more about these? are they like the color wonder by crayola where you color it once and are done? or are they like the aquadoodle where you can color them over and over again? thanks so much!!

Both 99¢ city and Dollar tree have a section with Disney stuff.

I took a ziplock and put,

Disney paper 8 sheets and 4 Stappers box set = 99¢
Disney Pixie dist pen 3 colors = 99¢
Disney Roll stamper (really cool) set of 3 = 99¢
Cars playing cards = 99¢
Disney coloring book = 99¢
Disney Crayons = 99¢
Disney Pixie Dust reusable water bottle = 99¢
Mini sized Mickey stuffed doll (Disney store) = $7.50

All together and handed it to my kid when she got in the car.
Did not hear a peep from her for 4 hours, by then she needed a "break" : )

99¢ is GREAT for small cheap trinket stuff O and GLOW sticks.

Does she have a Leapster? There are lots of fun Disney themed games for a Leapster.

In the past I have printed out Disney themed coloring pages, mazes, puzzles etc. You can find all kinds of stuff to print out on the internet.

Yes, she does have a Leapster. Any suggestions? I'd really rather stay away from the princess one only because everything else in the house is princess, lo.! The only software she has is Pet Pals, which she enjoys immensely since she gets to play with a virtual pet and dress it.

CARS is a hit with both my children (a girl and a boy). My daughter likes Tinkerbell, too! (Truthfully though, the biggest hits are non-Disney like Pet Pals and Creature Create.) At any rate, I definitely recommend a new Leapster game since you have such a long trip.

Disney music is a great way to pass the time. :thumbsup2 My kids also love to draw and color so Disney themed drawing/tracing/coloring books. We also always take park maps and the kids talk and talk about their favorite attractions.

This is another popular thing for our 2 girls. They love looking at the maps and seeing the rides. Also we bought a book called "Disneyland Resort Remember the Moments: A Magical Souvenir" at the Disney Outlet Store and my girls love it. It has pictures from the rides and descriptions grouped by land.

Re: the Leapster games -- my daughters both love the Leap Frog Letter Factory game. We have the princess one and they don't play it because it seems a little complex.
