I recently returned from a trip to Disney World and stayed at the BWV. One complaint my wife and I had was with the available channels on the T.V. Now I know I'm not there to watch T.V. but, come-on only so much of Stacey and the sales pitches. I think it great to be able to obtain the info but what happened to the channel with the classic Disney cartoons my kids use to love that ?

I agree. I sleep with the tv on all night so I go crazy without a good channel to leave on.

Perhaps Disney is going to include those “other channels” in with the “VIP / tiered rewards”. Jim Lewis said they were going to look into the TV offerings back in 2009 at the members meeting.

Maybe it's part of their "going green--use less energy" effort. Running a TV sucks up resources used to create the electrical energy, so if they can discourage folks from turning on the TV, it cuts their energy use.

Us too........every survey we take, that's out number 1 issue. But Disney doesn't seem to care. Every other hotel you stay at, you can get HBO, TBS, TNT, WGN, etc. But especially the cartoons, why did they take them away?

I'm glad to see we're not the only one's thinking like this. Like I said we really think we enjoyed the Classic Cartoons, but even a regular channel or two to watch after a day of Disney. Thanks for the responces

This really isn't a DVC issue. DVC resorts use the same cable TV system as the Disney cash resorts. It would costly for the DVC resorts to have different channel line-ups from the cash resorts, as DVC would be the ones contracting for those channels. Remember that the resorts & parks pay another Disney division a license fee for the use of Disney characters. IF DVC were to contract separately with other cable channels, that cost would be reflected in Members dues.

Perhaps we all can go down to McDonalds’ (near Blizzard Beach), they have a better selection of TV channels if you want to see the nightly news programs. The burgers, fries and cherry pies are not bad either.

We came back three weeks ago from Kidani. My husband didn't want to watch the sales pitches so he kept turning on tele-evangelists. Tele-evangelists at Disney?? Really??? I can't be the only one that thinks that is a really, really odd subject to put on Disney tv's.

If the local Orlando area is anything like the San Antonio area, there are several lcoal broadcast religious TV stations, and the local cable companies may be obligated to carry them, even Disney.

Disney/ABC/ESPN now own a large share of all content available. You would think they could do much better at the resorts.

Its funny grandpa mentioned the McDonald's. My family has stopped there the last two times we arrived at Disney and my kids joked because Lambert the Lion was on the T.V. It was one of the cartoons they grew up to when we first joined DVC so they we're disappointed when we got to the room and it wasnt on. But other then that my wifes likes liked to sit around and watch t.v. after a long day and she's very disappointed with their channels.

My DD was sick at WDW last Dec. so we stayed in and watched TV alot...and it really sucked. I could NOT believe there were no cartoons or even cheesy kid shows to watch.

On another thread I stated that my DH loves to keep Stacy and that Park Hour Channel on ALL THE TIME. We usually stay in a studio so I escape to the laundry room to enjoy my own plasma TV and its 3 channels.

We do not watch to much TV in the rooms but there is no doubt it is a horrible tv selection. Same recycled disney commercial channels year in and year out, not even an effort to update the DVC or muct do channels. Every year it is brouht up at the DVC meetings with a non commital, nothing can be done kinda answer.

I don’t think we are the only ones that visit Disney during the winter months when he days are shorter and the evenings are cooler. We seem to get those types of days during January and February when we spend three weeks or so enjoying the daylight hours...spending money. I would think that as DVC members we contribute to Disney’s’ “bottom line” and that they should considerate enough to offering watchable TV for all those families who enjoy the parks during the daylight hours and enjoy an evening or two getting caught up on the news and commentary of the day, if that’s what they enjoy doing. It makes it a long evening when you retire to the room after dark and your TV selection is limited to the current offerings. In our case we have occasionally gone off property in the evening just to find an establishment showing another selection of programs. We found that McDonalds and the Marriott Courtyard and others have TV showing a better selection in view while eating or having a drink or two. Back in the first years of our DVC membership we would come up to a week early and stay in one of the Disney properties, now we elect to stay off site on those occasions. Basically it is so that when the park day ended we would have a place we could retire to that had something to watch until the lights go out. With a car and an AP for parking, it doesn’t make much difference where we stay. It would be wise if Disney understood that not acknowledging small things like TV program selections may cost them in revenue in the long run. In our case it’s from three days to ten days a year we stay off site. It may not be much but we may not be the only ones doing that.

We asked about this at OKW and was told that many complained because it made it harder for parents to get their kids out the door. I found it to be a cop out but who knows. If THAT is true, shame on a parent for letting their kiddos rule the roost!
