MY DH, DD and I will be traveling to Disney World in Late Sept. 2004. We plan to stay at the Swan due to the location. I am looking for opinions to see if this is a good spot. My DD is 6.

We plan to only stay for 5 nights and will buy a 4 Day Hopper Pass.
Can we go to Boardwalk the first night we arrive without using a Disney park ticket?

Also does anyone know how much a taxi from the airport would cost to the Swan?

The Swan is a nice centrally located hotel. It is not quite as "themed" as a Disney hotel, but it is still quite lovely. We stayed there last year and enjoyed it very much. Ask for a "Heavenly Bed".

You will be able to go to the Boardwalk without a park ticket. There is no ticket required to walk the Boardwalk, and you will be able to walk to it right from The Swan. Just go over the bridge, and you enter the Boardwalk over near Jellyrolls and Atlantic Dance.

I am not sure how much a taxi is from Orlando Airport to WDW. Many years ago we took a taxi from the airport to POFQ, and were charged $40 for 4 adults. That had to be about 10-12 years ago though, so I have no idea.

You might want to consider a car service, depending on how many of you there are. It may end up being more cost effective.

You can walk from the Swan to the Boardwalk in 5 minutes or less. You don't need a ticket for this.

I don't know about the taxi, always used a rental car.

Swan is a great location, as it is within walking distance of two parks (Epcot - less than 10 minute walk; MGM - 15 - 20 minute walk; there is also a boat to MGM). It is also within a short walk of the Yacht Club, Beach Club and Boardwalk, so there are a variety of non-park restaurants and other activities very near the Swan.

The Boardwalk is a very short walk (less than 5 minutes) from the Swan and is not located inside a Disney park, so you can visit it without a park ticket.

I have never taken a cab from the airport, but I researched it once and believe the cost is approx. $50. However, there are numerous shuttle and limosine companies that can do it more cheaply.

The Swan is a great spot. Having previously stayed at the Boardwalk Inn and Swan, it is the only area that we will stay. For our upcoming trip in July we will be staying at the Dolphin.

You can easily walk to both Epcot and MGM, are within minutes of the boardwalk area and miniature golf. You will not be disappointed!

You will love the swan. We just got back. There is entertainment on the boardwalk. We saw the fire eating guy and our 3 ds played the carnival games. They are teens and we went to espn for dinner. You could stop in the bakery and get a yummy treat etc. Also at the swan you are the 1st bus pick up so you will more than likely always be able to sit for your trip to AK, MK etc. I really dont know what boardwalk eatery would interest a 6 year old, sorry. You could also go to beaches and cream for a good burger and ice cream at the beach club. I would probably only stick to the pizza at tubbis. I was not impressed with the other offerings, sorry. This is at the dolphin and the dolphin fountain looked like awfully slow service, but it shouldnt be crowded when you go. I hear people on the boards rave about palios so you might want to consider that restraunt located in the swan. Good luck and enjoy your stay.
