Disney Studios not MGM?

We just received our new Disney Vacation Planner video (which my DD 3 yrs old loves), and we noticed that Disney-MGM Studios had become Disney Studios? Has this been a recent change, and will there be changes in the park because they are no longer affiliated with MGM?

Wow! I just received the DVD in the mail. I wasn't aware of a name change either. Annmarie

They've been playing games with the park name for years. Most of the promotional materials use the name "Disney Studios", but the MGM name is still present. In fact, if you look at the shot of the turquoise arch in your planning vide, you will see that the "MGM" name on the sign is not present. The video was digitally re-touched to remove MGM, but it is still on the sign itself.

I just looked at a 1991 vacation planner - back when the Studios had opened - it also did not mention MGM, it must be a marketing agreement.

We were told by a CM a few years ago that it was just a matter of time before the name was officially changed to Disney Studios. She said that anything with the name Disney's MGM Studios printed on them would become collector's items. She said something about the contract with MGM expiring or something to that effect.

I remember hearing that 10 years ago when I bought a shirt that said "Disney-MGM Studio". I think it's more likely to be a marketing agreement than anything else and it kind of has gone back and forth for years. If you go to the official WDW website, you will see that they refer to the Studio as Disney-MGM Studios and that's the way it is on the park maps.
