Hi.... I was wondering if anyone could tell me if a double Disney stroller would be could for a 1 year old, that does not walk yet, and an almost 4 year old. We are trying to decide if we should bring our double stroller or rent Disney's.

I am wondering if my 1 year old will be able to sit up properly and if it is comfotable for sleeping.

Thanks for any info.

I'm in the same situation as you. I have a DD who will be 4 on the trip and a DS who will be 1. I can't figure out what to do either. I don't really want to rent the Disney strollers because they are not comfortable, definitely not good for taking naps. I don't know how many days you would need to rent a stroller and if you are flying or driving, so that might make a difference. We've had damage on our stroller from flying so keep that in mind. I feel like our double stroller is too big to take on the plane. We are thinking of bringing two umbrella strollers - one of which reclines enough for a nap.

I would NOT recommend a disney rental stroller for your 1 year old. The are made of hard plastic material. There is no recline. What strollers do you currently own? What double stroller do you have?

I have two kids 6 and 4. I was going to rent a single stroller that they would share to save money but I thought I read the single stroller was only up until 18 months. Is this true?

I'd like to know too. I was thinking of renting one for my 4 and 6 YO's

I rented a single stroller for my then 3 1/2 year old DS during my last trip. I do not recall anyone even really taking notice for whom I was renting the stroller. :)

I would think the strollers wouldn't be recommended for those UNDER 18 months. Most of the kids I see in the rental strollers are really in the 4 - 8 year age range. (basically the age where most parents don't have their own strollers anymore). I've even seen parents taking a break in a stroller, while the kids are walking.

I had questions about the strollers too. I'm going to be bringing a 5 year old, and i thought they might be too small. But what i read here is that people use them for 5-8 year olds! So it should be fine!

I was considering that since I will be there for 5 days, a stroller would cost $40 pre-paid. I can go to wal-mart (pre-order for in-store pickup) and get a decent, more comfortable stroller for like $35-$50....and then possibly sell it to someone before i leave for $20. ...or even just give it away to be friendly.

My big question on the disney stroller is: Is there way to rig stuff up to it....bags, camera bags, drinks etc. I'm not above bringing wire-ties and stuff to assit.

...which brings me to another question: are you allowed to bring a pocket-knife into the parks? I would need it to cut the wire-ties off before returning the stroller.

Here's the best pic I could fine on a short search of the strollers:

I cant post links, I guess I'm too new....but if you go to:

allearsnet dot com / pl / strol_faq.htm

you can see very clear pictures of the strollers from each park. My only problem with that is they only show the front of the strollers, so i dont know if it's conceivable to rig something to the back by the handlebar.

There are pockets on the back for drinks. You can plop a lot on the hood/canopy. I would think there should be a way to rip bags, ets. (oh...bring a stroller clip - that should work). I'm not sure on the pocket knife thing.

On our upcoming Disney trip, we are planning to order one of the "Jeep" strollers from Wal-Mart's website and have it shipped directly to our resort ($15 S&H fee -- and I already got the green light from the resort).

The Jeep strollers seem to be highly-rated by users, handle just as smoothly as Disney's rentals, have lots of storage for drinks/souvies/bags, and best of all -- no hard plastic to sit/sleep on!

As for getting it all home, I plan on wrapping it in heavy plastic and checking it as luggage when we fly -- that is, unless some of you, out there have better ideas...

How big are your kids? I tried the Jeep side by side for our last trip and it was really hard to push my 3 and 5 year olds. I guess I am just used to my double jogger- but with the Jeep I had to practically bend at the waist to get the leverage to push that thing around!

He's just my extraordinary, average-sized 18 month old (when we're at Disney!).

Thanks for all the replies.... I guess I will bring the double stroller or try to buy a new inexpensive one. Ours is a graco and it kinda stinks.... it has no cup holders and is really old. If anyone has any recomendations for an inexpensive double stroller please pass them along.

We left home for the airport with our double umbrella stroller safely tucked... back insode our front door. we blamed it on leaving home at 4 am! In the end it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to us. We have two DD's at the time they were 3 and 4 totalling a combined 70 pounds. The rental strollers were the best thing that ever happened to us. We threw our back pack onto the canopy roof thing and most other stuff fit in the pouches. They were so easy to maneuver with the heavier weight and the kids got in and out with absolute ease! And best yet, when it poured rain, (as it often does) ;) I could just whip out my towel and wipe it down and voila! Off we went again.

You can also leave one park and then use the same receipt at another park to pick up a stroller again. And there was no lugging strollers onto packed buses or worrying that it will disappear. We once thought our stroller had been "lifted" near pirates of the Caribbean and the CM told us to head back to pick up another one and he was also willing togive ous $25 vouchersfor the gift shop to replace the girls sun hats that were in the stroller. Unfortunately we found it a few extra feet away ticked safely in the stoller parking lot.

I am not sure about for a 1 year old that you want to reclin and let sleep for hours, but our toddlers slept in them when necessary (a multipurpose towel again!). We are heading back in April and I will do exactly the same thing again.

Definitely bring a stroller clip if you want to hang bags of goodies purchased in the park...that way they are off the canopy and not getting scruppled. It was a life saver for us....we also stored our autograph books and photo mat in the grocery bag on the clip...that was it was safe and easy to grab. The disney strollers are great...the older kids can just jump out on their own and they are easy to push if you have older(heavier) kids in them compared to regular strollers....If you bring a blanket you could probably have your 1 year old sleep in them also...just make sure to bring it as they are hard plastic....but I saw lots of little ones taking naps on blankets in them.

I have a 4-yr old son who puts the Energizer Bunny to shame. I'm contemplating on renting a stroller to let him rest his weary little legs every now and then, but I'm not sure if it's really necessary. We'll be staying at POR so we'll probably head back there for a quick afternoon nap to charge up again. I'm just curious though, have many of you that have been to WDW with 4-yr olds found it to be cumbersome, especially with big crowds, or was it a saving grace that may have kept the little one from whining, "I'm tired..."
Just wondering.

I am here now with 2DS ages 13 months and just turned 4. We brought a stroller for the baby but DS4 needed one also. So, we ended up renting a double stroller. DS1 is not walking, either and he sits fine in it. He has even napped in it, though not as well as he would in ours. DS4 can't nap in it very well. They are very easy to maneuver. Also, it is much easier than lugging your own stroller to and from the parks.

Note that the large hard plastic strollers have no restraints in them, do they? So your little one could just lean over and fall out, head first...

I'd get two umbrella strollers - one really cheap one for the 4 year old, and better reclining one for the 1 year old. That way, you can split up if the little one needs a nap, and the other parent wants to take the older one around.

Also, if you rent, you don't have the option of using it at the resort or to/from the bus and/or parking lot.
