We're planning a trip in May with our 2 DD's who will be 5 and 3 at the time of travel. I'm going back and forth on whether or not to buy a new stroller or just rent a double at Disney. My question is: Is a 5 year old too big to fit into a double stroller with her sister? Both my girls are tall (always been either off the charts or in the high 90th percentile for height), but half of me thinks that they will not be spending the entire day in the stroller, so it may be just fine to rent them. (I'm also not too thrilled about having to purchase another stroller at this stage in the game.) What do you guys think? :confused3

If you rent a double stroller you should be fine. You definetly will need a stroller for at least the parks. If you do find that a double is to tight for both kids, then maybe switch to two singles, but I think you should be fine with a double.

My kids are also 5 and 3. My ds weights 73lbs and my dd weighs about 30lbs. They both fit in the Disney double stroller. It was a little snug when they decided to disagree about which side they wanted :). In the past we also brought our own strollers. When we went down in December we flew instead of driving and we didn't want to have to lug the strollers with us. Renting the Disney strollers was the best thing we ever did. As you can imagine, my ds is hard to push. In the Disney stroller it is like pushing a 20lb child. It was worth every cent I paid to Disney for the stroller. We will never bring our strollers again.

my girls are the same ages as yours, tall but skinny. my older dd is about 43#s and dd2 is about 35# i went out and bough a used mac twin techno b/c I paid $80 for it used and would have ended up spending $112 for length of stay for a double. and i can resell the mac when we get home. what was the kicker for me was thinking about when we left the park at say 12PM after the PPP or at 11Pm after an EMH night and having 3 sleepy kids, 2 tired parents trying to carry a 3 y/o and 5 y/o from the park to the tram, to the car or buss, then from the car or buss to the resort room... it just didn't sound all that good, pushing a stroller sounded a LOT Better.

My tall 5 and 7 year olds shared a double last year. I'm sure your two will fit just fine. I did hear the "he's/she's touching me" a few times but when I reminded them that their other option was to both walk they stopped real quick, lol!

I wouldn't buy a double if I were you. The disney strollers push like a dream. I might consider bringing a single for your youngest for just around the resort though.

My DS(4) will be 5 in July. We are going in May, we swear by the rental stroller. I would rather pay the rental fee than bother with lugging a stroller around, w/ that being said, I only have one child and he is a little light weight, so lugging him in the evening wouldn't be a big deal. He has never fallen asleep on our way back to the tram or car, he has already slept in the stroller for a good hour or 2......;) Good Luck you will know what is best for you.

When we went a few months ago with our 6 & 2 yr. old both of them rode in the double stroller at WDW fine. Both of my kids are very tall but as long as they weren't fussing about 'the other one touching them' it was fine. ;) The rental strollers might be big but they turn on a dime and are very lightweight.

The problem with most umbrella type strollers is that their weight limit doesn't accommodate older children. I think the max. weight capacity for the Mac. Twin Techno is around 50 lbs. and my oldest weighs that by himself, add in his younger brother and I'd need an double umbrella stroller that could handle 80+ lbs.

You'll be fine. Heck we got 3 girls ages 5, 6 and 7 into one when they were all too tired to walk or we wanted to get somewhere fast. It was somewhat comical :rotfl: :rotfl: and it was always a fight as to which one had to sit on the end in the sun, but they all fit ;) .

I agree with the poster above who found a Maclaren twin at a good deal. I believe the weight capacity is 110 pounds. You should try one out if you have a store nearby. I will say that we personally could not do without our own stroller for non-park walking. Our twins are now 4 yrs old. We do a lot of walking back and forth to parks, depending on where we're staying, and the twins would never be able to handle all that walking, especially late at night after the night shows at the parks. We also frequent the boardwalk area, which requires our stroller big time. And we do the walk to Epcot and HS/MGM too. So.....consider your out-of-the-parks walking and if you think your kids, particularly the 3 yr old, can handle it. A lot depends on the resort you are staying at and how much walking you will be doing. Good luck!
