Disney Stores closing

I went to my local outlet (which is closing) a few weeks ago. I found the prices to be retail pricing and not what I would expect from an outlet. I’m spoiled because we love the Orlando Premium Outlet locations - variety, pricing, and store size.

I went to our store today. We've been visiting regularly for well over a decade. The employees there know my kids just from our shopping. We've run into one of them at the parks. It's heartbreaking. When we need a fun outing, it's actually on our short list. I don't understand them closing all the stores, some had to be making money, and the outlets were selling merch they couldn't sell in the parks. It's stuff I won't buy online, and we can't drive 19 hours to a park for random Saturday morning entertainment.

I went to Gurnee, IL store yesterday not knowing what to expect. That morning the employees walked in and were told it was bumped up to an extra 40% off everything (I'm not sure what it was prior to that). Some items had discount stickers already, like a t shirt might have been originally $23.99 and was marked down to $17.99 and would be 40% off the $17.99 amount. ALSO, they are honoring the Disney Visa discount, so if you pay with your Disney Visa, it ends up being 46% off, so basically while I browsed the store, everything was just about half off. I found some cute things. That store is an 'outlet' so they have a lot of clearance type items, and Disneyland items in it, as well as the more full price things. I am considering going to the Woodfield store (Schaumburg) today, although it's a hike. Does anybody know what their discounts are?

I am sad to see it close as well. I talked to the employees, some said they are able to retire, but not all. Apparently they are closing stores in certain states. Illinois is one of them. They said the nearest store after the closings to me would be Branson, MO or something like that. They said it was in an effort to concentrate more of their sales online.

I would call and ask what their current discount is. I called the Aurora outlet yesterday and they said that they just bumped up their discount to 30% and should last through the weekend. She said they still were handing out the $10 coupons for email if it wasn't too crowded. That's a great incentive!

Does anyone know what the highest discount they have seen before they actually closed?

I never really bought anything for the Disney store. It was so much better in the 90's. Our Disney Store closed a long time ago, never reopened from the beginning of Covid. They still had Easter decorations in the store when they announced it would be closing...months later. I do feel bad for those who worked there though.
Back in the 90s when my son was little, I bought lots of clothes for him there. I'd buy presents for the nieces and nephews too and Halloween costumes regularly. I thought their stores were great back then, but I haven't been that big a fan since that time. I'm guessing the stores are another casualty of online shopping.

I've never been to Disney or to a store before but stumbled across the Carlsbad, CA location and got ears for $10. Figure I'll save myself $20 because I know I'd want these mermaid ones on my first time to WDW in a month! It's a bummer but, to be honest, I don't understand how brick and mortars are surviving in general

We went to one in Danbury ct last week, when we walked in we were greeted with this sign , so sad. Went yesterday to woodbury commons they were at 40 % off and playing christmas videos, also gave 10 dollars off coupon, and coupon for free shipping for next online order.20210827_111846.jpg

I drove down to the Wrentham MA store today, and they couldn’t confirm the closing date (other than ‘on or before the 15th’). Everything was 25% off, all sales final. Still had a decent selection. CMs were all lovely.

I was at Merrimack NH yesterday and was told by the CM at the door they are scheduled to close 9/15. Everything was 30% off. Selection was still good. Very sad to see this store as well as Wrentham MA closing. I pop by occasionally to get parks merchandise.

Discounts are up to 50% off today at Gurnee, IL location. We picked up a few really cheap pins to trade and a pretty cool 3D puzzle. I’ll miss the store.

On the very last day, it was 75 or even 90% off, and then maybe like $1 or something, they sell every last item. In our case, tshirts (size 4X and 5X, not sure what else was there).

Sad to read that the Disney outlet is closing at
  • Chesterfield: St. Louis Premium Outlets, 18521 Outlet Blvd.

Our Disney Store in Rochester, NY closed several years ago. I could never figure out why because they did alot of business. I still miss ig.

Its very expensive to do brick and mortar retail - especially the mall model that Disney stores have - its much cheaper to go online - or to do what Disney is doing with Target (and Sephora has done with other department stores) and get a big box retailer to host your brand. Even if the store is doing a lot of business, the margins may not be sufficient to keep the store running.

Its a shame, Disney stores provide a little piece of Disney World in other locations for Disney fans - and for a while Disney was looking at them as a way to drive business to the parks. But I don't think they've been a major driver of vacation traffic ever - and if most of the people going through them are Disney fans to start with, then no, they don't.

Just saw this weekend that the Danbury Fair Mall location is closing and everything was 40% off.

In a funny bit of irony we were just at WDW for a couple of weeks and looked in every merch store for a t-shirt our son wanted and they didn't have it anywhere. But they actually had this t-shirt in stock at the going out of business Disney Store.

The store in the Tampa outlets were 50% off on Monday. They had a lot of disney princess dresses so I got those for only $25 (the 50% off and my extra 5% disney chase) and some items from I assume Tokyo Disneyland. They were size 4L.

I went back to the Gurnee, IL store yesterday (Friday, 9/10) and found they bumped the discount to 60% off. There were a lot fewer items than the week prior but I still found some things in common adult sizes. If you have small children, there were still a lot of kids clothes that were cute and still seemed to have a variety of sizes. The store was maybe 70% full last Friday and yesterday I would say it was about 35-40% full.

Here in the UK, they have closed all bar 2 and there were no discounts at all.

Gurnee store is 60% and really empty. One rack of adult shirts, and I think there were only 2 or 3 designs on the rack. One rack of boys and one rack of girls. A few plush Mickey from different cities. Only dolls are Esmerelda. No housewares except some mugs. A small selection of pins. Phone cases. Didn't buy anything. Much happier with what I bought at a lesser discount but items I liked more.

I also noticed that D23 members get free shipping at shopDisney this weekend. Might find something I like better over there. But I know I'll be doing far less Disney shopping than I used to when I could pick up Parks merch at the outlet.

I just went to the Disney Store in the Garden State Plaza in NJ. 60% off, not much left - mostly mugs, some costumes, keys, some pins and a limited selection of T-Shirts. We did pick up some shirts, pajama pants (only one more left) and bought two of the Disney tote bags. We asked about one of the decorations that had a huge glass Mickey head globe on top, but not for sale- oh well :) . When I spoke to the sales lady, she said she had worked for Disney for 24 years...I wish the best of luck for any of these CMs.

I know you posted a week ago, but do you know if they have much left in stock? I wanted to get there before it actually closed, but now I only have a few days!
