Is running a special that if you spend $50 or more, you get $25 Donald Dollars. That's today's special, I don't know if it's more than just today.

I went in last night after reading about the Donald Dollars.
They had three GOOD combined promotions -- all sorts of freebies for buying. Problem was, nothing to buy! (Not unless you have little kids in the house.)
Like I told DH, what good are Donald Dollars, if there is nothing to buy?
I may have bought CD's, if I could listen a little to what they were like before buying. Other than CD's, it's DVD's. And I have plenty in that area too already.
There were a few snowglobes. But I am not really a snowglobe collector, although we have some. Had there been a villains one, we probably would have gone for it.
The CM's asked me where I have been. I replied -- No pins, and only small kid's stuff. Why bother coming in? :(
Let's face it, NOT selling pins IS their loss. How much floor space did they actually take up? And when I think back to how much $ I USE to spend at the DS! I don't know how I did it!
How about going from hundreds to nothing? And how many of us are like this now?

Same thing here. I hardly ever go in anymore. The shift in merchandise is surely going to affect their sales. Maybe they'll get the message. :(

the last few times I was in there, the store was active (I won't say busy, because there weren't THAT many people). Of course, everyone had kids in strollers..

I undertand completely! The last time I was in any Disney Store was a Tuesday in early December when I met a colleague to trade pins. I don't even think I bought anything.

I just came back from two nights with friends in Celebration (very quick drive down & back) & didn't even go to a Disney park. We stopped at Shades of Green for a few minutes, so I did at least see the Castle!

No, Donald Dollars are basically a store credit to be brought back at a future date for use.

Unfortunately, atlnewf hit the nail on the head. Business is great, according to my DS CM friends, so the chances of them going back to adult oriented merchandise is slim.

Oh well, it lets me save more money for my trips to Orlando.

I was wondering if it was just my DS that had quit selling pins... guess not. And being so far from the parks and hardly ever getting offers or replies from pinpics.... it really makes me wonder if this is a hobby I should pursue. Might be time to just get rid of all the pins.

A $50 purchase "earned" you the $25 Donald Dollar certificate. It is redeemable on a $50 purchase 4/21 thru 4/27. It cannot be applied towards Disney Dollars, pre-sales of movies, passports, gift cards, DVD's/Videos but just on regular merchandise. So you are getting $50 worth of stuff for basically 1/2 price. Have you seen the cute beach towels and large size beach "blanket" type towels they have....I know where my Donald Dollar certificate will be heading, they are good quality and really great looking.

You also got a Thumper Beanie & Disney Storybook for free today with a $40 purchase, and if you then got to the $50 you also got the Donald Dollars...not a bad deal as the Thumper gift set is $25.:D

I've said this before: I used to love going to TDS. It felt like a little mini visit to WDW. Now all it is, is an expensive toystore.

I was a CM in a TDS in the Chicago area one Christmas season. The store was mobbed from opening to closing every day for weeks leading up to Christmas and for weeks afterward. We couldn't get the adult clothes out fast enough. In comparison, my local TDS here was empty everytime I went past it this holiday season. Even with all the sales and special promos they don't seem to attract customers.

Disney is not just for children. Walt Disney never meant for his company to be just about children. Wonder if the marketeers at TDS corporate will ever get the message.
